Philips 50PFP5332D 50" DEAD IN 5 MONTHS, 2nd one DEAD IN 33 DAYS! August 23, 2008 DJ- (Florida) This TV had a beautiful picture, for the first 5 months then died. Mfg. Warranty specifically states Philips has the right to send out a refurbished TV as the replacement, it took 2 months to arrive from Ohio. The replacement lasted 33 days and began to turn itself off. Contact w/Philips Cust. Service, again they stated per policy, they want to send another refurbished model or a LCD TV instead of the plasma unit. Research indicates this mfg. is no longer making plasma TV's for US distribution, parts and repair are almost impossible even on a 5 month old TV, opps, 33 day old TV. br / br /Recent discussion w/ six independent repair services has informed me this model has been, and I quote, "a dog from day one"... br / br /It's football season and my brand new big screen is no longer working!! This TV has been broken more time than it has been operable since I purchased it in Dec. 2007... SAVE YOUR MONEY, BUY ANYTHING ELSE, DONATE IT TO CHARITY, BUT DON'T GIVE YOUR HARD EARNED $ TO PHILIPS!!!
Awesome Picture... Great Plasma TV August 7, 2008 K. Saeed (Bolingbrook, IL) I was a bit skeptical when I read some bad reviews on this TV but the price was too good to ignore. I have owned it now for a week and I am more than happy. br / br /The picture quality is awesome, even the non HD chabbes are great. The remote is simple to use and light. br / br /I hope my TV lasts longer and based on the picture quality and price, I will give this 5 star!
owner June 9, 2008 stan Eberhart I bought this tv and i could not be more pleased with it, it work's great, has the best picture i have ever seen, It's connected to fiber optic and the picture looks like it's real, I have one in my coach and it gets bounced around a lot and it plays as good as the one in the house, the way I look at it if high End motorcoaches install it in there units it got to be a great product.Hey they do have lemons out there.
Lasted 16 months - then died March 15, 2008 C. Orner (Warner Robins, Ga) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I wish I had done more research on Philips repairs before we bought our 50" plasma 16 months ago. Just Google "philips repairs" and get ready to read the horror stories. It's amazing a company can stay in business nowadays with such poor customer service and products. They look good, but don't count on them to last.
50PFP5332D board problems February 5, 2008 Michael S. Moss (South Carolina) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
This tv does in fact have high failure rate I know I purchased one br /January 2 2008 and the tv would turn its self off after only minuets br /of watching. Little trouble shooting with Philips shows that the unit had power board failure. Also when you would turn the tv off only the screen would sometime go out the power board would remain on with led lights on the board still Glowing. you can view the green led lights on the board by looking through the vent holes from the back. When the is turned off the lights should go off PER Philips. Sometime mine would sometime they would remain on after turning the unit off. br /I returned the tv for replacement and the second tv did the same exact thing the TVs were MFG only one month apart. I wounder how many people have this same set that are not even aware of the power board not shouting off? If I had two sets with same problem you know there has to be many out there with same falure. br / This tv looks great that is what sold me and the price and the name Philips. I got my refund and purchased a Samsung. after all this and dealing with Philips. When I see the name Philips I turn my head. Never again will I purchas a Philips brand again
