Product Description Philips (26PF5320/28) 26" 16:9 LCD TV
Amazon.com Product Description Save space and enjoy a wonderfully vivid picture with the stylish, 26-inch Philips 26PF5320 widescreen LCD TV, perfect for smaller rooms, kitchens, or dorm rooms. It has a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner for standard television broadcasts, but it's ready for high-definition signals when coupled with an optional HDTV receiver. It features Philips' Crystal Clear III video processing, which combines a whole range of enhancements to provide a better picture, including a dynamic contrast, blue stretch and green enhancement for the most natural looking colors. This set includes a tabletop stand, but it's also wall-mountable with optional kit (VESA compatible). The 26PF5320 has a 1366 x 768-pixel resolution, 178-degree viewing angle, 16 ms (millisecond) response time, a 500 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating, and a 600:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.) Other features include an anti-reflection coated screen, auto volume leveler, adjustable color temperature and sharpness, sleep timer, and V-Chip parental controls. The 3D comb filter separates brightness and color signals better in 3D domain to eliminate cross-color, cross-luminance and dot-crawl distortion. It performs field-by-field comparisons of the television image to accurately separate the color from the black-and-white information and remove both horizontally and vertically hanging dots, as well as dot crawl, resulting in a razor sharp image. This set also performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, too--a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture. This TV has two built-in stereo speakers that produce 5 watts per channel (for 10 watts of total power). Philips' Incredible Surround audio technology dramatically magnifies the sound field to immerse you in the audio. Using state-of-the-art electronic phase shifting, Incredible Surround mixes sounds from left and right in such a way that it expands the virtual distance between the two speakers. This wider spread greatly enhances the stereo effect and creates a more natural sound dimension--without the use of additional speakers. It also includes the following connections: - Composite AV (RCA) In: 1
- S-Video In: 1
- Component Video In (Y PB PR): 2
- HDMI In: 1
- RF In: 1
- VGA PC input: 1
- PC Audio In: 1
Tech Talk HDMI -- HDMI makes an uncompressed digital RGB connection from the source to the screen. By eliminating conversion to an analog signal, it delivers an unblemished image. The non-degraded signal reduces flicker and leads to a clearer picture. HDMI intelligently communicates the highest output resolution with the source device. The HDMI input is fully backward compatible with DVI sources but includes digital audio. HDMI uses HDCP copy protection. | Customer Reviews: screen format problem, quality problem, service prcoblem November 9, 2006 Eugene (NY, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It's impossible to change the screen format while watching DVDs through Component Video or HDMI input. It is always in wide screen mode. I tried to find a new firmware for this TV, but only newest Philips TVs has USB inputs for upgrading a firmware.
Also, the remote control is very, very bad. It doesn't have the "last channel" button, and it runs on small battery (CR2025) which needs to be changed frequently.
UPDATE: I had to repair it for 2 times over the 3 year period, and it's still not working as it should (I have an extended warranty). Every time I'm powerting on the TV - the screen goes black, there is sound but no image. I need to turn it off and on again several times to get the image. The customer service on the phone is ok but when you get to the "Certified Philips Repair Center", which looks like a grocery store on the corner, it seems like they don't know anything about Phillips. Last time i repaired it, I had two problems with the TV, and I told them about it, but while repairing they ignored one of the problems. So at the end TV is still broken and its scratched all around after i got it back.
I'm just don't filling like i should bring the tv for a third repair, i don't like to be without a tv for a week and the service is so bad that i don't want even bother anymore.
Bad experience! 2 stars!
No Philips for me anymore!!!
This TV has an alarm timer! July 9, 2006 P. Haase 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is one of the few LCD TVs to have a timer that allows you to use it as an alarm! Few descriptions even mention this feature and sales people in stores don't know what you are talking about. Thanks, Amazon.com for mentioning it! It works great and is easy to set up.
great buy January 31, 2006 polly (northern california) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
I looked around for about a week or so, and then found amazon offering this up at 950 w/ free shipping, which seems like a good price for a good tv. TV arrived within a week, and so far it seems to be a winner. Great picture! Though, this being my first 'widescreen' tv, I was surprised that even widescreen tv's still show letterboxing on most movies, I guess 16:9 isn't wide enough.
Doesn't have a DVI input, which would be nice, but does have VGA.
One little design flaw: the inputs are a little difficult to access, in back, facing down, under a ledge, would be easier to access on the side.
Remote Control January 8, 2006 person (Phila, PA) 12 out of 33 found this review helpful
