FANKindleTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!! December 2, 2008 Kacey C. Desmond (New York, NY) I heard about Kindle when it first came out but never really gave it much thought. Then recently I saw someone on the train with this 'white digital device,' and me being the gadget junkie that I am, of course I had to look over her shoulder and check it out. Imagine my delight when I discovered it's a digital reader!! I love reading just as much as I love gadgets! The rest is history ;~) I ADORE my Kindle! It's absolutely fantastic! The ease of use, clear easy to read screen, and instant access to THOUSANDS of books, magazines and newspapers make this device the 'gotta get it' gift for anyone who enjoys reading. br / br /It fits very comfortably in your hand, just like a real book. It took NO getting used to, I loved it right out the box. And for me it seemed so meant to be, the same day I saw it on the train, I went home and researched it, turns out, it was the LAST day for the 'Oprah' discount! It was like a match made in heaven!! br / br /The only complaint I have is the 'next page' bar being on both sides of the unit. When handling the Kindle the next page bar is constantly pressed no matter how carefully you hold the unit. Personally, the 'next page' bar could have been limited to one side in my opinion. br / br /Other than that, it's AWESOME!!!
Disappointed December 2, 2008 Sands (Maryland) Terrible design; almost anywhere you touch the device the page turns. A backlight would be very helpful. Hopefully the next generation will improve. I need to find out about the return policy.

If you can afford a Kindle I highly recommend it. Just the thought of being able to browse and buy from such a large volume of material from the palm of your hand is remarkable.
Fabulous December 2, 2008 E. Kathryn Hall (Evansville, IN United States) I ordered my kindle after viewing it on Oprah's show. Loved the discount, and wish it would happen again. I have traveled twice since getting it and cannot believe how much I'm enjoying not carrying tons of books while traveling. Hope some of the books that are available for downloading drop more in price. I'm saving many of the kindle books to read only when flying. Looking for a protective case that will give more protection than what I currently have. Greatest item I've seen and used since I-Pod.
Exceeds expectations! December 2, 2008 Lisa Hubbard (Cedar Falls, IA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I LOVE my new Kindle. I've had it about 2 or 3 weeks and so far have read 3 books. It's easy to figure out and the user's guide (already downloaded) is very concise and helpful. The large font is great for night reading (especially for those of us in our 40's). It holds a charge for a really long time. I've only charged it twice, and even then I still had 50% charge left. It also charges very quickly. I like how quickly new purchases are downloaded and that I can preview a book before I buy. I can see how some people might miss having an actual book in print - and I think some are worth having and keeping. But, most of my reading is for pure escapism and entertainment - I'm not reading literary classics, and frankly prefer not to have to shelve, sell, or give away books I've finished. I think that for those of us who are avid readers and even a little bit "techno-geek" it's a perfect fit!
