Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.P PAL, which stands for "phase alternate line," is the television and video standard in use throughout most of Europe, Hong Kong, and the Middle East. The format produces 625 horizontal lines (compare to NTSC's 525 lines) at a field rate of 50 fields per second, where 2 fields equals one complete frame. Only 576 of these lines are used for picture; the rest supply sync or extra information such as VITC and closed captioning.
