Good Drive, Bogus Software March 12, 2008

I like the drive. it works well for my simple needs. br / br /but most of the included nero software expires and they want more money. all that works now is the simple burning tool. i would rather have a 'lesser' version of the nero software than a full version that i cannot use after couple months. br / br /so be warned if you want to author dvd's and many other things, the software will expire.

I've burned over 200 DVDs with this drive, and had only about 5 not come out properly. Usually the problems stem from the software you use generating a bad .iso file, or failing to turn off anti-virus scans for the duration of burning. DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter work great with it, but I've had some problems with old Roxio software (easy Media creator 8.) Using Roxio to burn the dual-layer disks failed, however, using the same .ISO file worked when DVD Decrypter was the software used to burn. (So, that proves it was the software that was the problem, not the drive.) br / br /I have not used the free Nero software that came with it, however, I don't understand the people that complain about this free bonus software. It's kind of like complaining about the free fortune cookie at the end of a good Chinese meal. If you don't like it, use other software! br / br /The hardware here is great; I've used only Memorex CDs, DVDs, and DL-DVDs and had very few problems.

Cant beat this drive for the price. The only downfall is amazons slow shipping. After waiting a week I got an email that it was on back order and it took about 4 or 5 days after that to get.

I've been using this drive for more than 7 months now, and I don't have any single complaint about it. It's fast, reliable, and has a cool design, although I don't get to see it cause my HP computer case covers the drive with it's bay door (The blue light is cool tough). br / br /I have yet to burn a dual layer DVD, but the speed is good for single-layer ones. Also, I was even able to read some scratched DVD's my old DVD-Rom would not read. br / br /And the price is excellent. A great choice for an internal DVD burner.

This is a wonderful DVD/CD burner. I recently installed it and burned many discs. They all work great. It is also very fast and doesn't make the CD's get hot, just warm. I would highly recommend it if you need one.
