2 out of 5 stars Good while it lasted...   July 6, 2008

I got this as a Christmas gift from some friends after my last DVD player gave up it's ghost. It's now July...about 7 months later...and this player is dead already. It was fine up until a week ago, where you had to open/close the DVD tray several times to make it read a DVD. Now it won't recognize any disc at all. Sure, it's cheap...but only lasting half a year is still too short for any kind of product to be considered a good buy - at least in my opinion.

5 out of 5 stars Great for how cheap it is   June 26, 2008

Ordered and have used it at work many times. Ive read other review saying that it dosent last as long as other ones, but considering the other dvd players cost a lot more and some of them you can't set the regional settings on, this is a cheap but very effective player for the money. If it dies in a year or 2 who cares, you bought it for 30 bucks anyways lol. Considering I'm spending 80 dollars on gas every 2 weeks I figure 30 bucks for a year of movie watching aint to shabby.

3 out of 5 stars Won't play all formats of home-made dvds   June 7, 2008

Overall, it's a nice little dvd player. If you're only playing regular store-bought dvds which are in great condition, then this little player is phenominal, and you'll be quite happy. However, it is a little extra-sensitive to scratched dvds, and it won't play all formats of home-made videos. br / br /We have 2 dvd players. This little magnavox, and a higher quality dvd recorder and player. The higher-end will play through most of the scratches on the dvds, whereas this magnavox will get stuck on most of the same scratches. br / br /Also, this magnavox won't play all formats of home videos burned to DVD+R. We burned some from our computer, and some on our dvd recorder, and only some of them play on this magnavox dvd player. I wish I could remember which ones we burned which way, but I can't. If you have a video of an ultra sound from Fetal Photos, it won't play those either. I haven't tested DVD-Rs because I don't have any. br / br /But like I said, regular store bought videos (including Netflix, Blockbuster, etc..) play just great, so long as they are in nice condition. br /

1 out of 5 stars I'm on my 6th one!!   April 13, 2008

I have had to replace this item 5 times, and today the 6th is going crazy. I bought it from Walmart, so they keep replacing it for me, but it's gotten to the point where I want to cut my losses and get a DVD player that actually works. The longest I've had one is 3 months before it stopped working. What an inconvenience!

5 out of 5 stars Great Little Player   March 30, 2008

Hooked this up to a Sony Wega 21" flatscreen and it works great. I don't have HD for this TV. The dvd player instructions come with three different hook-up possibilties including HD. The picture quality from this player is superior. I bought this after I saw the one my daughter bought from Walmart. Hers is connected to a 21" Sylvania flatscreen and the picture was so good I bought the player for my kitchen TV. It is small and sits nicely on my kitchen counter. Highly recommend this product.
