The Vista Cx features a bright color display, electronic compass and a barometric altimeter and much more. | You can use the Vista Cx's memory card slot with preprogrammed microSD cards from Garmin (sold separately) that provide topographic maps, city streets, and nautical charts. In fact, the unit is compatible with most Garmin MapSource products including BlueChart, City Navigator, U.S. Topo 24K, and U.S. Topo and Recreational Lakes with Fishing Hot Spots. The unit comes preloaded with an Americas autoroute basemap that provides automatic routing capabilities including highways, exits and tide data. You can even get turn-by-turn directions when you're driving and an integrated trip computer provides odometer, stopped time, moving average, overall average, total time, max speed and more. The Vista Cx's barometric altimeter system features automatic pressure trend recording while providing current elevation, ascent/descent rate, minimum/maximum elevation, total ascent and descent, and average and maximum ascent and descent rate. Meanwhile, the unit's electronic compass allows you to get accurate headings while standing still. Like on all eTrex units, the primary controls are located on the side of the unit, so you can operate it with one hand. I purchased this for geocaching. When I tried connecting to a computer it just wouldn't work. Tried several machines. Same result. So I just sent it back to Amazon. I have experience with another Garmin unit and loved it so I'll try getting another model. Maybe this was just a lemon.

I received the GPS sooner than estimated and it has performed up to my expectations. It powers up quickly and after using it for over a month it has been accurate over the trails in both distance and elevations. I definitely recommend it.
The only reason I did not rate it a 4 is the Garmin MapSource Topo U.S. 2008 did not come with it, but I knew that when I purchased it. After installing the Topo U.S. it will be a solid 5.

The Garmin eTrex Vista CX Color handheld works great EXCEPT that it will not power on without taking the batteries in and out each time you turn it on. It was a reburbished one with a year's warranty from Garmin. Seller told us to return it to Garmin. Garmin has given great service and we are supposed to get a replacement in a week's time.

This is a great little handheld GPS for hiking and geocaching. Has a micro SD card expansion slot which is perfect for upgrading the maps and using the eTrex as a USB flash drive. I gave it a 4 out of 5 stars because it does lack on the getting satellite locks while inside buildings and loses satellite reception if you put it in a pocket. Other than that, if you are in the open or hiking through the trees, this is a perfect inexpensive GPS for hiking and geocaching.
