Good 4 the price December 1, 2008 J. Blix (usa) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The unit worked well right out of the box. The display is fine and touch screen works without a problem. The voice turn by turn instructions are clear and the maps are up to date. The points of interests (gas stations, restaurants, stores) are outdated and there are NO map or POI updates on the Nextar web site. So if you don't mind not being able to look up recent POI's or update your map, it is a GREAT unit for the price.
Fantastic for the price. Very pleased -- despite so many poor reviews... September 8, 2008 K. Norris (IL, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this GPS unit from Bed Bath and Beyond with a 20% off mailing, even after reading the reviews here. (there's also a $30 rebate on it additionally at BB&B). I was very skeptical, but the price was right. I noticed that I originally had trouble getting a satellite signal... *until I read the manual* ... and I have had NO PROBLEMS since! :) I have used it on several trips -- battery life wasn't terrible, but definitely take a charger on trips over an hour. Also, the car charger for unit included fits my blackberry phone (extra bonus, in my book). This is a great, inexpensive GPS unit. I enjoy it very much, and I think you could too!!
A Lesson In Frustration April 23, 2008 Gloria M 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This was a gift and did not work out of the box. The GPS could not read map data from the SD card. Tech Support couldn't do anything so they referred me to customer service. I placed 5 calls to customer service and was never able to speak to a live person. None of my messages were returned. If you read this string of reviews, they are critical of Nextar for a reason. Nextar has no consideration for YOU - their customer. I don't recommend buying anything from a company that operates like this.
you get what you pay for, in this case i really overpaid April 8, 2008 V. Zubenko 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I trusted some positive reviews and took the plunge and got it. Wow what a mistake. The first problem is that it makes a horrible sound when you plug it in to charge it and when you unplug it. The other part is that its not upgradeable and only comes with the USA map. The mp3 player is pointless as you would need to change sd cards out beefore you could use it. The software is glitchy and doesn't work when hooked up via usb to your computer. The points of interests are poor as well with very limited info. It boasts 1.6 million but doesn't even find a walmart, costco, or some other local stores that have been in business for over ten years at their current locations. Nextar wants you to pay for updated maps. Many name brand competitors give you upgrades for free. My suggestion would be to buy a tomtom for about 50 bucks more and at least in a year youll be able to find the places you need. I paid 114 and believe i overpaid, 50 bucks is more like it for a throw away gps.
Great economical GPS that works March 18, 2008 L. Leung (Bay Area, CA) I bought this gps expecting very little given it's unknown name and low price. What a surprise! It is very well built and works right out the the box. This is my first gps and I found it very easy to use. I have it working in less than 10 minutes and it acquired the signal right away. There are some features that you will not find in this unit like real time traffic etc. that would have warranted only a four star. However, given it's price and what you got, it is worth a five star.
