4 out of 5 stars Good bedside scanner   August 26, 2008
D. Smith (Syracuse, NY)
As someone who owns a couple of vintage ELECTRA Bearcat scanners (The ones made in US, not China as they are today) I was looking for a scanner that was also a clock radio. As a scanner, it does everything it should for analog scanning and has SAME weather alert which works well. I would not recommend this radio for long term AM/FM listening as the sound is a little tinny.(On the other side of my bed, I have a GE Superadio for that) I love laying in bed on Friday nights and listening to the cops nail the drunks for DWI in my area !

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing Product   April 6, 2008
Ron (Wanaque, New Jersey)
Problems with this scanner include a squelch that affects the AM band, an alarm display that cannot be viewed while lying in bed, and an instruction manual that has ommissions,is confusing and very frustrating to use. With the display softkeys being redefined constantly one loses track of modes and band limits, etc., and with a manual written so poorly, it makes the whole operating experience a total disaster. On the plus side the receiver is quite sensitive. The unit has a good appearance and feel of the controls is good. It would also be nice if the AC supply was contained within the unit. I expected more from a top of the line product and a manufacturer with a reasonably good reputation.

4 out of 5 stars Uniden 300-Channel Scanner   March 18, 2008

The Uniden 300 does what it claims and does it well. I can receive br /police, fire, marine, ham radio, am, fm, tv, weather and even pick br /up local cordless phone conversations. The controls are easy to use br /and the unit is fairly easy to set up. I wish it came with a beefier br /antenna but I'm able to get nearly 300 miles of reception of ham radio br /so its not bad straight out of the box. The frequency scanner works br /efficiently and smoothly zeros in on any live broadcasting in whatever br /band you are in. The emergency notification is awesome, never thought br /I would need it in San Diego, but sure enough it popped up one evening br /when a storm cell blew into the area causing flooding. Nice! The br /radio controlled clock feature automatically re-set itself when day- br /light savings time came around too. As a bed side companion it does br /the job and more! My only complaint, which is very minor, is the clock/ br /frequency display is at an angle not convienient for viewing without br /lifting my head from my pillow. Reckon if that's the only negative br /then I'm 99.5% satisfied with my purchase. Kudos to Uniden Amazon br /for hooking me up with the Uniden 300.

This is one of the best scanners I have ever purchased. Great quality and awesome reception. I purchased two of these. One for my residence and one for the Firehouse, and no one has anything bad to say. I would recommend this product to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent And Compact Scanner / Emergency Weather Radio   February 20, 2008
Joburti (Seattle, WA USA)
There are many excellent reviews for this unit which is why I bought it. I have to say that it is everything they said it was. Compact, high quality, and easy to use. One unique feature is it automatically turns on when there is an emergency weather alert in your area. When they test the system it will turn on and make a strange beeping noise which can be startling at times but when the test if over it turns itself off. I also like the fact that it also has batteries so you can hear emergency channels even if the power goes off. br / br /A great unit.
