How to fix clicking sounds from the paper tray November 13, 2008 Aron Eisenpress If you're getting loud clicking noises that seem to be coming from the left front by the paper tray, here's how to fix the problem: - Take the paper tray out. Make sure the paper height is set to 11 inches -- it's probably set a little smaller, and the design lets the paper interfere with the gear that lifts the paper up for the feed roller to grab when it's not set right. - Then lock the paper size - the lock is at the back of the tray. Brother ships it unlocked for some reason.
prints good but not envelopes October 13, 2008 Henry Vaughn (usa) Except for always creased envelops, printer is just fine. I own three of the same make/model printers and Brother has not yet answered my email regarding envelopes.
Great printer September 26, 2008 TechnicalDude (Midwest) I purchased this printer as a factory reconditioned unit and it has worked flawlessly for me. It is quiet and i have none of the problems that others have mentioned in their reviews. I love how smooth and fast it works and the print quality is very good. It does run through one's mind, though... perhaps, someone else returned it and the factory fixed the wrinkled and crease sheet problems? I also added a Netgear wireless print server to the network and printer and it runs wirelessly now throughout the house in essence turning it into a 5250 model and that works well, too. It gets 5 stars from me.
Creased paper August 11, 2008 Warren (FL, USA) I've owned Brother printers in the past. I bought this as an upgrade. Unfortunately it creases paper randomly and regularly. I can't use it for anything but personal printing (where I can overlook the creases) unless I print multiple pages and use the ones that aren't creased. Wastes a lot of ink and paper. If you're in the market for a printer, look elsewhere.
Poor envelope feed July 21, 2008 D Darkman (New York State) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The printer works as well as one might expect for a desktop printer; fairly fast; copies are crisp-looking and clean. My mediocre rating is for its poor envelope-handling ability. Envelopes come out heavily creased. The support document tells several things you can do to fix this. One (a software change) doesn't help at all. The other (a hardware adjustment -- flipping two levers located along the paper's path) does help the creasing, but the manual says quite clearly that you must flip these levers back when you're done. This means, that to print an envelope, I must get up, go to the back of the printer (which is not that accessible), open up the back, flip two levers (not so easy to do) return to my computer and print the envelope, then get up and repeat the process to re-set the levers. What is more, the envelopes are barely barely getting past this printing... they're getting a bit curved, sealed shut from the heat, so each envelope must be carefully nurtured back... carefully opened, carefully flattened... in order to have a professional look to them. Clearly, this is not a printer for someone who intends to print envelopes. A previous model of Brother printer handled envelopes with no difficulty, so this is definitely a let-down by comparison.
