Died after 6 months of medium use - avoid! January 2, 2009 G. Pineda (Santa Barbara, CA) Well the title says it all - purchased mid July 2008, died on Jan 2 2009. Since it was my first mp3 player I was fairly happy with it... nice and small, basic controls etc. I don't need anything fancy. But five and a half months of life? Absolute BS. I'll never buy a Samsung product again.
An ergonomic disaster December 24, 2008 laxxy (Chicago, IL) This so far wins the prize for the worst designed piece of hardware I have had experience with; and software is not much better. For the sake of fairness positives first: it is slim; the USB connector slides out (no cap to lose). It is also nice to the touch. Now on to negatives: - fake buttons (simply drawn on a perfectly smooth plastic piece): -- impossible to use without looking closely at the device -- VERY sensitive to touch and very easy to miss even when looking => --- skip forward when you want to change volume --- enter menu when you don't want to (it is tricky to get out of too) --- buttons act by themselves in your pocket if not locked -- No buttons highlighting => impossible to use at night - Does not work (and can not be made to work) as a mass storage device -- Can not be used with car stereos & other devices with a USB port (which effectively negates all benefits of the form factor) -- Forces you to go through a slow and confusing synchronization process -- Useless as a USB stick -- You pretty much need to create a playlist for everything --- No playlist creation on device -- Will not work on linux etc. How a decent company like Samsung with experience designing great consumer products could have come up with *this* is still a puzzle to me.
Good little player October 11, 2008 Andrew Quattropani (New York) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
In a nutshell, this is a decent player with a lot of nice features. Some of the people complaining about the touch screen changing the volume or advancing the track to the next one don't really understand how it works. there's a hold button on the side that when activated won't allow any changes to the face. It's that simple!!!! When you need to change something, flip the hold switch back, make your change, then put hold back on. It has good sound and can hold plenty. I will say the USB connector doesn't fit in all USB drives where they are on your computer. The wide faceplate may not allow it to connect on some slots. One of mine didn't fit, but an auxiliary one did OK. Something to think about if you only have one USB slot. No, it's not an iPod, but this model I got from My Coke Rewards was FREE !!! You can't beat that !!
Small and lightweight, but buttons too easy to push. August 23, 2008 Lisa Nelson, RD, LN (www.eNutritionServices.com) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was all excited when this order arrived and it works great as long as you leave the "hold" switch on. If you accidentally bump it, it'll skip to the next recording. I use it to download teleclasses and listen while I drive. Works well for what I need, but if I went back I would choose a different MP3 player. Something that's less touchy.
YP-U3JQB very cool July 6, 2008 Fritz Ferrante (Kodiak, AK USA) Very nice system. The touch based controls are nice, but do make it difficult at the gym when I want to change the volume. I think the hold button might be designed a bit better. Great sound and contols beyond those very minor complaints.
