Why is it so hard to find a good portable radio? November 14, 2008 E. Vielbig (ILLINOIS) Had a great little Sony battery / AC portable radio that we gave to our daughter for use away at school. We love our daughter, but we never would have given her the radio if we knew it would take four months to find a replacement. Our requirements were simple: White, uses batteries, sounds good, $75. There are plenty of $30 portable radios out there, but they are black or silver, and most sound like junk. The white ones are either AC only, powered by a crank(?!?) or have all sorts of emergency bands, etc. ALL I WANTED WAS A PLAIN WHITE AM/FM RADIO! I was thrilled when I cam across this Sangean model. Use rechargeable batteries, they even recharge in the radio! It is solid, sounds good, has great reception, and looks good too. Only improvement would be to make the LCD brighter when not backlit. Buy it.
Fantastic Radio October 29, 2008 Info seeker (LA, CA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was trying to replace my Sony ICF-M410 which is about the same size. I was extremely disappointed I could not find it as they discontinued this model and I was so happy with that radio. In searching for reviews of AM/FM small portable radios, I came upon this one. Not too many reviews (7) but I bought it anyway because I wanted a radio that ran on batteries. I could not be happier with this radio!! Superior in sound and reception to the Sony I had and a BIG PLUS is that you can use rechargable batteries (I have been using the eneloop) and charge them in the radio! Doesn't get any better than that and I LOVE having the option of using the electrical adapter (which comes with it) or use it with the batteries only. There is no weather band or tv band on this like the Sony, but I really mostly use the radio for AM reception and talk radio which is excellent (FM is also). I highly recommend this radio for anyone looking for a truly portable radio with great sound, reception and a compact size. I also love the volume knob and the display which has a lighted clock along with the channel. Oh, I forgot about the sleep timer too that I love. Hope this helps.
Good quality, great sound, nice features October 28, 2008 Kevin D. Hoff (Lomita, CA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This radio has many features. The best feature is the sound quality and signal strength. The sound is full and rich. It locks into all frequencies very well. It has alarms, and a sleep timer. It uses alkaline batteries or rechargables. Nice radio.

Well worth the money October 8, 2008 Joe Shultis (P Prairie, WI) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I researced the reviews on Amazon for a number of radios. I wanted a quality product that didn't cost a small fortune. It needed to have good AM reception as the use for this radio is talk radio and sports/news. I use it in a commercial building where no other radio seems to work. I am pleased to say the this radio pulls in about 5 major stations from the Chicago market (40 miles away) under these conditions where the other radios don't. I haven't tried the radio ouside under ideal conditions. A good bang for the buck. Thanks Sangean!
