Product Description Toshiba has long set the standard in HD widescreen monitors and its newest TheaterWide HD sets continue to bring the highest level of technology and functionality. The TheaterWide HD monitor models feature PowerFocus HD2 CRTs, PowerFocus HC Lens System, TheaterShield, and TouchFocus auto digital convergence. For 2003, 46"+ TheaterWide HD models take things to the next level with CrystalScan HDSC all-time 1080i, TheaterFine HD Super Fine Pitch Screen, CableClear DNR+, Auto 16: 9 Mode, SRS WOW, New 4-item Universal Remote with DVD control, Speed Tuning, and DVI-HDTV. The new TheaterWide HD sets also feature totally redesigned cabinetry that creates a stunning, fresh look. The 46" is a tabletop model, with a unique identically matching stand option. The new TheaterWide HD design also features intuitively placed lifting handles that mean easier set up and in-home positioning.
Amazon.com Product Description Note: Toshiba 46H83 46" HDTV Projection TV is no longer being manufactured. You may want to consider purchasing the newer Toshiba 46H84 46" Projection HD-Ready TV instead. Brimming with high-tech features, Toshiba's 46H83 widescreen projection set is ready to render vivid, smooth, and detailed video signals from DVD players, digital TV set-top boxes, digital satellite systems, cable television boxes--you name it. Heading the great features is CrystalScan HDSC, which converts all 480i and 480p signals (as from progressive-scan DVD players and DTV set-top boxes) to high-definition 1080i. This significantly reduces jagged-line artifacts for a smooth, natural image. Selectable 540p, for those who want to maintain a progressive-scan image from a progressive-scan source, is an option in the onscreen menu. HD Window dual-tuner POP (picture-on-picture) with PIP (picture-in-picture) sound grant PIP functions regardless of your input source. TruView combines the following picture enhancements: black-level expansion, fine white, flesh-tone correction, and color detail enhancer, automatically reproducing accurate pictures with true colors. A stellar 3D Y/C (4 MB, 10-bit) digital comb filter with Vertical Contour Correction provides accurate processing of RF and composite-video signals for a sharp, clean picture. This high-end filter significantly reduces detail noise, seen as shimmering or flickering, in complex or intricately detailed scenes. CableClear digital noise-reduction circuitry optimizes poor NTSC signals from antenna or cable. The set's DVI-HDTV input allows a direct digital connection with a DTV set-top box or receiver, while dual ColorStream HD component-video inputs provide the ultimate picture quality from high-definition analog component-video signals (as from DTV receivers, satellite receivers, and progressive-scan DVD players). DFine high-speed velocity-scan modulation improves contrast and overall picture sharpness by changing the speed of the electron beam as it transitions between bright and dark areas of the picture. HD Dynamic Contrast continually analyzes picture information and sharpens and deepens those parts of the picture with the most detailed information. Cinema Mode (3:2 pull-down switch) identifies original film-based content from DVDs, then reassembles the frame sequence to more accurately reproduce a film's original 24-frame-per-second material, obviating distortions caused by DVD's 30 fps rate. Further, the TouchFocus automatic digital convergence system creates perfect corner-to-corner focus at the press of a button. Manual override adjustments are available. For audio, the 46H83 offers SRS WOW, combining SRS 3D (which creates a wide, three-dimensional sound field), TruBass (which boosts bass-frequency perception for more dramatic low-frequency effects), and Focus (which raises the sound image vertically to create clearer voices)--enhancing sound quality through the set's own two speakers (which are powered by 5 watts per channel). StableSound maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal, and Toshiba's Sub Bass System (SBS) boosts a program's actual low-end audio for heightened dramatic impact. What's in the Box TV, illuminated universal remote control, remote batteries, user's manual, QuickConnect guide, and warranty information.

Incredibly pathetic service from TOSHIBA January 6, 2006 Neil Sankey (Granada Hills, CA, USA) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
The TV is great!, terrific!, but then I tried to get a stand!! The recommended ST4663. Got three weeks of runaround from the Toshiba website who claim to send you to their accessories department, which turns out to be a small parts store!. The Toshiba Customer Assistance person anded up doing a "Google" search because SHE had no idea of where to get it AND couldn't offer any alternative or help! I would NEVER buy Toshiba again if this is the best they can do!
must be seen to be believed August 31, 2004 doppelganger (Chicago) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Of all projection TV's (not counting the DLP's), this is THE best one. Bestby carries this model, and when seeing all the dark projectors around it, you'll say: "is that a projection??" It looks like a tube, it's that bright. I'm currently not in the market myself, otherwise I'd get this thing in a heartbeat for that price. One caveat: Glossy Screen. It looks better at night, but daytime TV just isn't as glorious.
Awesome TV!!!! June 25, 2004 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
We bought this TV about a month ago or so, and at the time weren't even looking at a TV or did we even need one. For some reason we got a wild hair in us and went to the store to look at actually originally a different TV. The one we were looking at was really nice too, but the sales guy told us this one had the best review in Consumer Reports and it would be the best bet. We decided to listen to him, and so glad we did! We love this TV, it looks really nice too, especially with the matchng stand to go with it. We do have a HDTV digital cable box, and it is amazing the way things look on this TV!! We are now waiting for movies to come out on DVD rather than the theater because it is so fun to watch movies on this TV!!! I would definetely recommend it!
TV MANIA April 28, 2004 1 out of 15 found this review helpful
I shopped around for a TV that was 46" and rear projection for a long time. I found that brand recognition was not as bad as I initiatially had thought that it was. I've had a small "Toshib",and I call it that 'cause the letter fell off quite some time ago, but the fact that this tv still goes on is amazing. This TV has been in my house for at least 12 plus years. So, I think that this brand is invariably outstanding. My "Toshib" still plays, while my "Toshib" has lines across the top of the screen. I admit, there are a few set out there that beat this Toshiba, but my new Toshiba Widescreen TV is really nice!!!!!!!!!! and all the worth of a dollar spent.
LOVE IT December 17, 2003 25 out of 25 found this review helpful
We did alot of research on rear-projectors and found that Toshiba really had the best reviews. We just got our Toshiba a few days ago. Right now we do not even have a high def signal coming into it, but the picture is still amazing. DVDs that we have watched numerous times are like new pictures to us. There is scenary that you never would have noticed on a 4:3 screen. There are alot of great functions with the tv, including different Picture sizes that will let you 'stretch' regular broadcasts into a widescreen viewing area. The TV does need tweaked for your viewing environment (brightness, contrast, etc) but this was very easy to do with the remote and the manual. There are plenty of video inputs to use. We only need one because we run everything through a high end Audio/Video receiver with Component Video Cables. I would recommend spending a little more on the cables, it is worth it. All in all, the 3 days I have spent with my new tv has been great!!! I can't wait to see how fabulous the picture is once I get the high definition source and receiver.
