Product Description
Affordability and size do matter when selecting the TV to meet your needs for the coming years. Space is a key consideration and the TXN2771HF is just right for custom furniture, a cozy room, or wherever you need a TV to fit. The sleek design offers Light-Touch front panel buttons that you illuminate by touching the control key icon. HDTV is growing in popularity with content from cable, over the air, and off satellite. When you are ready, add a Samsung HD receiver/decoder and see the difference 1080i HD resolution can make. All the newer DVD players are progressive scan. The TXN2771HF is one of the few smaller screen TVs that can properly display a flicker-free 480p progressive scan picture. It also corrects film to video flaws with 3: 2 Pull Down. Whether you are looking for connectivity, compatibility, or just a better picture from today's regular TV (all analog signals presented in the better progressive scan), Samsung delivers an outstanding home entertainment experience.

Amazon.com Product Description
Twenty-seven inches may be a standard TV screen size, but the Premiere Series TXN2771HF's splendid picture quality is anything but standard. This sleek and surprisingly compact set offers everything from high-definition resolution (1080i/480p) to a multitude of inputs and picture enhancements, as well as stylish and--dare we say it--fun Light-Touch front-panel controls. The Light-Touch keys illuminate when you touch an icon, letting you access TV menu settings without having to use the supplied remote control.

For the screen, Samsung's proprietary DynaFlat technology delivers a perfectly flat viewing surface with none of the curvature, image distortion, or detrimental glare that accompany traditional TV screens. Hook the set up with any DTV set-top box or progressive-scan DVD player to take full advantage of its high resolution and picture-enhancing technologies.

This particular 800-line screen brings higher resolution than that achieved by earlier-generation sets because the individual phosphor color spots (or pixels) are smaller and closer together in this configuration. The set's multiple-focus electron gun illuminates finer spots for a more detailed picture, edge-to-edge, and it's assisted in this job by a three-line digital comb filter and velocity-scan modulation circuitry.

Velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.

Another set of image improvements is wrapped into Samsung's Pro Picture three-stage video correction: Total DSP (Digital Signal Processing), Pro Chip Plus (converts all interlaced analog signals to superior, flicker-free progressive scan images), and the above-mentioned three-line digital comb filter (which analyzes multiple lines of picture information to better minimize edge image artifacts while improving transition detail).

A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing in a brighter, clearer picture.

The TXN2771HF performs 3:2 pulldown detection, a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

Connections include a component-video input, an S-video input, a trio of composite-video inputs (with accompanying stereo analog RCA audio inputs), an RF input (for VCR or cable box), and a set of audio/video outputs for feeding a DVR or VCR. Convenient side-panel audio/video inputs foster hookups with camcorders and gaming consoles while preserving the set's uncluttered silver front panel.

A zoom screen-filling option lets you customize the view of letter-boxed DVDs from the supplied remote control, while screen-capture picture freezing lets you view still images, even with broadcast television. Convenient side-panel buttons let you configure the set and access its menus without having to use the remote.

The TXN2771HF's 15 watts per channel (x 2) ensures sonic clarity and an ability to play loudly. Several sound modes offer dynamic audio settings for whatever you're watching; choose from standard, music, movie, speech, or custom. Surround-sound mode simulates an exciting surround effect from any two speakers, and a side-panel headphone jack allows private listening (headphones not included).

What's in the Box

4 out of 5 stars Inexpensive HDTV with great picture quality and low price!   November 12, 2006
Maxwell (Washington D.C., USA)
I bought one of these from a friend, so mine came used and is about two years old. It's in fantastic condition and I've had none of the problems that other posters are complaining about.

My previous TV was a six year old Sony Trinitron that I loved, but I think I like this one better. The screen is more flat that my old Trinitron and the picture is sharper and dark colors -- especially blacks -- appear better. Walking down an unlit tunnel in the xbox video game HALO, you really get the appearance of a real tunnel, not a grey-light area.

Picture quality in 480p with the xbox is great -- just like a computer monitor with clear colors and excellent resolution. 1080i HDTV Television broadcasts are amazing. The local news uses HDTV for local reports and the pictures and color are amazing. I love the detail when you can see fans in the stadium of a football game or the texture of someone's face while a guest on the Late show on CBS. I've had this TV for a year and still get a kick out of the picture quality.

This unit has two component video inputs which allows me to get top picture quality with an XBOX and an external HDTV DVD player/Tuner unit without having to switch cables, etc.

The side access to SVIDEO, RCA and headphones makes it very comfortable to plug in headphones, video cameras, etc, without having to reach around back.

I really like this TV and thing its a bargain at the used prices I'm seeing for it.

1 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk...Regret getting stuck with this oversized paperweight!   February 26, 2006

First problem was right before the warranty expired, fortunately. The ol' "touch buttons on-the-front self-scrolling" problem. Warranty service took 2 weeks to fix it. Now, the d#@% thing shuts off by itself, & won't turn back on. I'm still debating whether to fix it or junk it. I paid $700 new, back in '03 from Best Buy. It was my "Worst Buy".

4 out of 5 stars Great TV for the cheap price tag   July 11, 2005

I bought this tv a few years ago at a local store as an open box item for 530. I definetly got the warranty. After about a month the buttons on the front started illuminating which forced the tv to change channels. I had it fixed (for free) and have not had one problem since that was replaced. I even replaced it myself after the replacement item was shipped to my house. I believe for half the price of the other higher end names this tv is a super steal and the picture is awesome paired with an hd signal.

1 out of 5 stars Horrible, don't buy   June 11, 2005

My tv is 15 months old and the volume and channel buttons are going like crezy even with the batteries out of the remote. For the price, this tv is a stinker. Stay away if you don't want repair bills.

4 out of 5 stars Good tv - AWFUL buttons   May 11, 2004

The "heat sensitive" buttons detect too much - we will be watching tv and the volume and/or channels will just start to go up...and up...and up. Once they start, there's no stopping them. It is so frustrating!
