Amazon.com Product Description
Save space in your entertainment center and enjoy vivid, colorful video with the 27-inch Westinghouse LTV-27W2 LCD TV, featuring a super-bright, HD-ready widescreen display and a stylishly thin, wall-mountable and frame-ready design. It has a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner and it's capable of displaying high definition TV signals with an optional receiver or cable/satellite set-top box. In addition to HDTV functionality, this set can also be used as a PC monitor via the DVI and VGA inputs. It comes with a tabletop stand that's removable for wall mounting (with optional hardware).

The LTV-27W2 has a 1280 x 720-pixel resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio, 16ms (millisecond) response time, 170-degree viewing angle, 550 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating--perfect for viewing colorful details in even direct sunlight--and 600:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.) It's capable of displaying 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i high-definition video.

It features Faroudja's Emmy award-winning DCDi deinterlacing and scaling technology to up-convert standard video in DVDs to HD resolutions. DCDi (Directional Correlational Deinterlacing) technology eliminates the jagginess that conventional upconverters introduced to diagonal edges in video. FaroudjaOs unique DCDi algorithm identifies all the moving edges in a scene and adjusts the angle of interpolation at each pixel so that the interpolation always follows the edge instead of crossing it, eliminating staircasing or jagged edge artifacts.

The 3D comb filter separates brightness and color signals better in 3D domain to eliminate cross-color, cross-luminance and dot-crawl distortion. It performs field-by-field comparisons of the television image to accurately separate the color from the black-and-white information and remove both horizontally and vertically hanging dots, as well as dot crawl, resulting in a razor sharp image.

This set also performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, too--a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture. Other video processing features include 3D-de-interlacing and progressive scan conversion, low-angle interpolation, and 3D digital upscaling (often beyond HD resolution). Other convenience features include an adjustable backlight for ambient lighting and power savings, picture-in-picture capability, closed caption decoding, and V-Chip parental controls.

It has two bottom-mounted stereo speakers that produce 18 watts of total audio power (9 watts per channel). It offers the following connection options:

  • Composite AV (RCA): 2 in
  • S-Video: 1 in
  • Component Video: 2 in
  • DVI: 1 in
  • PC VGA: 1 in
  • RF: 1 in
  • Headphone: 1

Tech Talk
Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.

DVI (Digital Video Interface) provides an uncompressed transfer of high definition video from a digital video source to a digital display device. This universal standard for connecting flat-panel monitors is also used for data projectors, plasma displays, and digital TVs.

1 out of 5 stars 2 years TV SHOT   January 5, 2009
D. Gallagher (Chi., IL. United States)
White vertical lines suddenly appear call tech support (which was good) and told display panel bad and costs as much as new tv. It really aggravates me to pay $500 and have this happen less than 2years old

1 out of 5 stars Give me the good old days   July 3, 2008

I would give this a 0 star rating. After using it for a little more than a year vertical lines have appeared on the sides. They line up with where the screen is set for a standard screen. If I set the picture size to Full or Zoom they will go away in a couple of weeks. Now the TV is turning off. There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason for it. Sometimes it happens after a couple of minutes sometimes it takes hours. I bought this set when it first came out and it cost me around $1000.00. I took the TV it replaced and put it in my basement office and it is still going strong at 20 years old. Just think what this will do to your wallet as well as the environment if all these TVs only last a few years. I will never consider buying another Westinghouse product.

1 out of 5 stars Westinghouse Lemmon   January 6, 2008
Hector (Florida)
A Westinghouse LTV-27w2 purchased December 2005 seemed to have been an excellent buy until the power supply quit on November 2007. It has been so far impossible to have the set repaired unless I accept and agree to a $150 to $450 repair estimate, plus shipping charges. Stay away from Westinghouse, historical big name reduced to fly-by-night operation.

5 out of 5 stars Greta deal on a fabulous TV!   October 30, 2007
Rick Starsick (Fairmont, WV)
Elegant style, decent sound, superb HD picture describes this offering from Westinghouse. If you are looking for a main set in a big house, I probably would not buy this screen size, but for an office, den bedroom-more than adequate. This is my third LCD purchase of a Westinghouse product, and I would love to see a 60" with companion sound be offered. I am a professional videographer and I purchased this unit for color-quality check of my video projects and it fits the bill handsomely-and I got it refurb from Ecost for $300! Watch out though-mine came with no manual of power cord_I am currently resolving this dispute from Ecost, so no biggie. Got it in three days standard DHL service!

For the above reasons, but it.

1 out of 5 stars Same Problem! Power Source dies Right After the Warranty Runs Out   April 3, 2007
C. Ordowich (U.S. East Coast)

I just had EXACTLY the same problem as another reviewer. I bought the TV in February of 2006 and in March of 2007 (1 month after the warranty runs out), the tv died. Westinghouse tech support suggested I buy a new power cord which I did and it still didn't work. They then told me it is probably the power supply module and I should send it out to be fixed.

The Westinghouse tech support people were very nice but told me since it isn't under warranty I'd have to pay to fix it. I agree with the other reviewer who said this is far too expensive a tv to be a throwaway. It makes me very suspicious when products die just outside their warranty periods, especially since this exact same thing has happened to someone else. I own a few other Westinghouse products that have been fairly reliable, it could be that this specific model is defective. If thinking about purchasing this model- I definitely would NOT.
