Amazon.com Product Description
Get the sharpest and clearest images possible from both HD and standard television programming and your favorite DVD movies with the technologically advanced 62-inch Toshiba 62HM95 DLP projection TV. Vivid imagery and vibrant colors will pop off the screen, thanks to the integrated Texas Instruments' HD2+ chip, which enables a much higher contrast ratio along with a more consistent picture than other DLP chips due to filled-in mirror "vias" in the center of each pixel. This set has a built-in analog/digital/digital cable tuners (NTSC/ATSC/QAM) that will receive free over-the-air HDTV signals (ATSC) and HDTV signals from a cable connection (QAM). It's also Digital Cable Ready (via the CableCard slot), so you can enjoy digital cable without an additional box or remote using an optional CableCard. It also comes with TV Guide On Screen and Toshiba's innovative Channel Browser "back" button feature--similar to a PC browser back button--that allows easy access to recently viewed channels.

DLP (which stands for Digital Light Processing) uses an optical semiconductor to recreate source material with a fidelity analog systems can't match. While other technologies lose a certain amount of light in transit, the microscopic mirrors in a DLP projection system bring more light from lamp to screen. It also features better color uniformity over time--no burn-in, screen aging or color-shifting possible. It's the leading display technology for products like small portable conference room projectors and professional venue entertainment systems.

The technology at the center of the 62HM95 is the new Toshiba Digital Light Engine named Talen X, which utilizes Texas Instruments' xHD4 chip, advanced optics, and Toshiba's DEEP Picture and Xtreme BLAC technologies to provide high resolution with improved brightness and contrast. It also includes the new PixelPure AT Digital Video Processing, utilizing new Adaptive Technology to create further improved picture quality, the new Radiance 150 Hi-Bright Lamp for noticeably brighter images and a TheaterFine DFP Screen with anti-glare coating that results in increased detail and noticeably deeper blacks.

The PixelPure AT digital video processor offers motion adaptive de-interlacing, adaptive MPEG processing, and adaptive contrast and color enhancement for a consistently high picture quality. The 3D Y/C digital comb filter (4 MB, 10-Bit) constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time, to reduce dramatically edge image artifacts while improving transition detail.

The TheaterNet Control System simplifies the control of external components through both an IR jack and Firewire (IEEE1394) port, the latter of which can be used to transmit digital video and audio and allow for recording of HDTV. This set also includes a built-in OmniViewer memory card slot, which is compatible with a wide variety of popular formats--Secure Digital (SD), MultiMedia (MMC), Memory Stick, Compact Flash, and Smart Media--enabling you to view photo slideshows directly from your digital camera's memory card.

Perfect for viewing high-definition content and your favorite widescreen movies, this set offers a 16:9 aspect ratio and 1280 x 720-pixel resolution. Other features include both picture-in-picture (PIP) and picture-on-picture (POP) capabilities, tri-lingual on-screen menus (English, French, Spanish), channel labeling, channel return, channel browse, favorite channel, and V-Chip parental controls.

The 40-watt stereo audio system (two 20-watt speakers) delivers ample sound for sports and movies. It features the following video and audio connections:

  • Composite AV (RCA) In: 2
  • S-Video In: 2
  • Component Video In (Y PB PR): 2
  • HDMI In: 1
  • RF In: 2
  • Firewire: 2
  • Digital Coaxial Audio Out: 1

Tech Talk
HDMI -- HDMI makes an uncompressed digital RGB connection from the source to the screen. By eliminating conversion to an analog signal, it delivers an unblemished image. The non-degraded signal reduces flicker and leads to a clearer picture. HDMI intelligently communicates the highest output resolution with the source device. The HDMI input is fully backward compatible with DVI sources but includes digital audio. HDMI uses HDCP copy protection.

Bought this TV in Oct 2005....since then life has never been the same....from the lamp bulb to the engine light..I will not recommend this TV to my enemy if I have one. The Lamp cost about $200, it last for five months if you are lucky. The color wheel located inside the engine light cost $700 for replacement, it goes out every 5 months.....so Run!Run!!Run!!! do not buy this TV....If I new what I know now, I would have gone for either panasonic or samsung. Did I forget to mention the irritable noise coming from the back of the TV?

2 out of 5 stars Bulb Problems   March 23, 2007

Purchased a 62HM95 in 04/2006. Bulb blew in November. Second bulb just blew (waiting for replacement now). Toshiba rep says we're getting an "improved lamp" rated for 4000-6000 hours, which is what they said last time - Apparently the bulb that just blew was also one of the "improved" lamps. I told them to mark my file as I'd likely be calling again in 4-6 months. Toshiba rep said if it blew a 3rd time, we could discuss "other options". The TV is on about 4-6 hours a day (little ones love their cartoons) on average over the "life" of the TV. We have an XBOX, a PS2 and a HDMI DVD player connected to the TV inputs. Cable box also connected through HDMI cable. (Tried a cable card from Comcast, but the channels were delayed - 5 secs - in changing.) Fiber optic running over to a receiver as well. We also have a second antenna connected. The picture is good when it's on and the sound is really good, but aside from the bulb issues, we've also experienced problems with the card reader not operating (tech had to be called to service the unit) and off and on green and black squares bouncing in place of the picture at times (not the digital signal blocks). All were reported to Toshiba. Toshiba cust service has been responsive and worked with us on the phone, but $2500 (what I paid last year) is a lot for an off and on again TV. I just want a TV that works.

4 out of 5 stars I love mine   March 13, 2007

I read a lot of the reviews on here that are negative, and I am shocked. Especially about the bulbs going out so early. I bought mine almost exactly one year ago, and to say we watch TV religiously is an understatement at best. At a minimum, 5 hours a day during the week and you can probably almost triple that on a weekend day for my entire family. I have had no bulb issues. Not one. I love the picture, and everything else about this TV. I have not had one problem. And I keep waiting for the bulb to go out and it hasn't. I also play Xbox 360 and PS3, and have had no issues. Must have gotten a good one.

5 out of 5 stars I love my TV   November 13, 2006
John Grace (Grand Haven, MI)
I've had this for about a year. I've had no problems of any sort with the Tv. I took it out of the box, plugged it in and it has been going ever since. Everyone who see's it has a "wow" response to the TV. When they find out how much it costs, the wow factor doubles.

After Hurricane Katrina I was given up that I would get back into New Orleans and the TV would be gone or wouldn't work. I half expected to see someone on CNN taking my TV with a rubber raft through the floodwaters. Despite baking in the hot sun and 6 weeks of extream humitidy it's still working fine.
