It also features an integrated ATSC tuner that can capture over-the-air digital broadcasts from local network affiliates (the set will still require a set-top tuner for receiving non-terrestrial HD broadcasts from channels like HBO or Discovery). When content from film is sent to your home it requires processing that can cause picture noise or distortion. Hitachi's VirtualHD technology analyzes the incoming signal to improve subtle transitions and sharp edges--thus reducing this noise to a minimum and helping to recreate the smooth curves and high fidelity image of the original film source. Hitachi's Super In-Plane Switching (S-IPS) technology allows for crisp, sharp images during rapid motion scenes and a wider viewing angle. Unlike conventional flat panel LCD displays, Hitachi Super-IPS elements twist quickly on a horizontal plane to let light pass through for the fastest response possible. The 26HDL52 offers a 768p display (1366 x 768), which scales 720p HDTV signals to fit the display. (More than 94 percent of the 720 HD signal is scaled to the display; due to variances in program productions and transmissions not all of the 720 signal is suitable for display.) It also features a stunning 3000:1 contrast ratio (the higher the ratio, the better the color details even in ambient room light), 170-degree viewing angle, and a super-fast 8ms (millisecond) response time, which minimizes blurring of moving images and is especially helpful for sports and action movies. The 4 MB 3D Y/C digital comb filter constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time to dramatically reduce edge image artifacts while improving transition detail. The anti-reflective, high-contrast screen effectively absorbs ambient room light, reducing reflections and producing richer blacks, vibrant color and increased detail in shadows and highlights. Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. Here is what I thought was a great buy on a LCD Televison. It had great picture quality and no glare which we really enjoy until it quit working after only 4 1/2 months. Then its true colors came out. 1st it took three calls to Hitachi to get them to send the authorization to work on the TV. Then it took about a week and a half to get parts. Then the parts proved to be defective. Next it took another week to get replacement parts. So after 3 1/2 weeks I thought I finally had a TV again, but when we got it home and turned it on whenever you tried to turn the volume up it turned the TV off. So back to the shop it went. It has now been there for a month and is still not ready. I called Hitachi and got no help from them at all. No telling when I will get to watch this TV again. Think twice about buying a Hitachi!!!

After much research on HDTV,EDTV,SDTV,480p,720p,1080i,etc.etc. I decided to pull the trigger on this set ... I am very pleased with the performance and the price from Amazon was great too. This set listed at $2000 when released in 2005 and it got it for $599 w/ free shipping. I have heard that Hitachi is a groundbreaking tech company and other manufacturers use the features they invent. Even though it came out 2 years ago it has all and more features compared to new units from cheaper brands. Read the specs on these LCD's or plasmas and you will see.
I have used OTA viewing via analog signal for the last 15 years, and the ATSC tuner has now changed my viewing enjoyment many times over. I now get 17 digital channels clear as ever. I upgraded the antenna setup by adding a DB2 high gain UHF to an existing VHF/UHF/FM attic antenna and another DB4 UHF unit on the roof. FREE HDTV! No monthly fees, after you set up your antennas.
This set may be hard to find now, but I recomend it and any other Hitachi product. They are not as saturated into the marketplace as Sony, Sharp, Samsung, etc. but they produce quality products.

I bought this TV for my small office. I had it installed with the elbow mount so patients could watch tv while waiting for appointments. After a couple of weeks the screen went gray and with in another two weeks it went out completly. I wouldn't recomend it.

I could not find reviews for this TV but was on a great Sale on AMAZON..so went with this ...I have a Samsung DLP & a Samsung 32" LCD for the master bed...got this one for the guest bedroom...must say regular non HD channels look better on this TV ...HD I could not differentiate between this & the Samsung LCD....The sound is way better than the other's on the market...crisp sharp colours & great picture with lots & lots of features...will recommend to anyone looking for a 26" (1080i)TV ...the best by all standards...
The only thing I wish it was was support 1080P....
