It features a built-in, 181-channel NTSC TV tuner for standard broadcasts, and can receive high-definition (ATSC) broadcasts from an optional HD tuner or cable/satellite set-top box. It also includes an integrated, slot-loading DVD player on the side, with compatibility with a wide variety of disc and digital content formats. The 23HLV86 makes it easy to connect to brilliant imagery with its component and HDMI connections--the latter offering pure digital audio/video performance with no degradation of signal--and it can also double as a PC monitor. This set also offers Toshiba's exclusive HD Dynamic Contrast function, which provides a sharper, deeper image with rich colors and a more life-like image. p In addition to standard DVD video and CD audio discs, the DVD player is also compatible with CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, and VCD discs as well as MP3, WMA, and JPEG (Kodak Picture and FujiColor CDs) content burned to disc. It's also DivX Home Theater Certified, meaning that it's compatible with video burned to disc using both the DivX video format. The DVD's Digital Picture Zoom function allows you to select an area of the picture you want to zoom in on and magnify it. Enhanced digital processing during moving video or freeze-frame playback produces superior color fidelity and resolution, even when you're zoomed in. Other DVD features include multi-angle viewing, fast scan, slow motion, and multi-subtitle selection. p The 23HLV86 has a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio--perfect for high-definition telecasts and DVD movies--1366 x 768-pixel resolution, 500 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating, and 500:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.) It supports 720p (HDTV), 480p (EDTV), and 480i (SDTV) video formats. The GameTimer feature allows you to set the television to shut off after a specified period of time, and stay off until a lockout key code is entered. Other features include tri-lingual on-screen menus (English, French, Spanish), V-Chip parental controls, sleep timer, channel return, and channel labeling. p The 3D Y/C digital comb filter constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time, to reduce dramatically edge image artifacts while improving transition detail. The Digital Cinema progressive scan (3-2 inverse pulldown) function provides accurate, smooth film reproduction. We had high hopes for this combination TV/DVD player and it gets very light use in my daughter's room. Unfortunately, it has had problems over the past 3 months, not turning on at all, and after several weeks of "sometimes" working, it no longer powers on at all. br / br /Save your money and buy a Sharp or Sony.

This is the perfect TV for my small den (approx. 9' x 12'). It fits inside a bookcase so it does not intrude on the room. Picture is great for both TV and the DVDs. This item is exactly as advertised - no complaints from me.

This is a perfect space saving bedroom tv. The DVD player is awesome and plays any disk you put in it - Divx, jpegs, mp3s, etc. Awesome for playing all those torrent downloads on something other than the computer! Sure the channel changing takes a little bit of time, but no more than most other lcd/hdtvs. I haven't noticed the heat being an issue - I have it wall mounted on a tilt mount - it does get a little warm, but it's not melting paint or anything!

TV and DVD player work great. Picture is clear and sound is good. I ordered a good bracket to hang it on the wall. When you order a bracket make sure you buy a good one so it hol;ds the TV level.

I ordered the Toshiba 23HLV86 for x-mas. It came on time and all was as advertised. I like having the DVD as part of the TV as it saves space and minimizes cords etc. Only negative is the delay as you switch station to station - it takes longer then my old TV to switch.
