Amazon.com Product Description
Transform your home theater with the brightly colorful 32-inch Akai LCT3285TA LCD HDTV. You'll enjoy 480p, 720p and 1080i high-definition viewing right out of the box thanks to the built-in digital ATSC tuner, which pulls HD signals right from the airwaves. You can also connect the set to an optional receiver or cable/satellite set-top box using either the HDMI or component connections. A standard analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming. p The LCT3285TA has a 1366 x 768-pixel resolution, 176-degree wide viewing angle, and a super-fast 8ms (millisecond) response time, which minimizes blurring of moving images and is especially helpful for sports and action movies. It also offers a 550 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating and a 1000:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.) p Other features include color temperature settings (cool, middle, warm, and user-defined), MTS/SAP stereo audio, a sleep timer, last channel recall, picture zoom and freeze, tri-lingual on-screen display (English, French, Spanish), and V-Chip parental controls. p The bottom-mounted speakers produce 7 watts of power per channel for 14 total watts of power. It offers the following connection options: ul liComposite AV (RCA): 2 in liS-Video: 1 in liComponent video: 2 in liHDMI: 1 in liPC VGA: 1 in (with PC audio mini-jack input) liRF: 1 in /ul p bTech Talk/bbr iHDMI/i is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV--all over a single cable. It provides up to a 5 GB per second bandwidth for transmitting pure digital video and audio signals with no degradation in the transfer. It can carry up to eight discrete audio channels, making it compatible with 7.1-channel surround sound systems. Signals are encrypted with HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) to prevent recording. HDMI is fully backward-compatible with most DVI connections. p iComponent video/i (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound. p bWhat's in the Box/bbr LCD HDTV, stand, remote control (with batteries), printed operating instructions

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars I wish the remote was compatible with something else   May 12, 2008
Bradley G. Bechtel (San Bruno, CA United States)
This is a great television, with excellent picture. EXCEPT... it uses a remote control code that is not compatible with any other remote control. I've tried several different remote controls (Tivo, Motorola 4-in-1 DRC800, and others) and none of them can get the television to respond. br /Great picture, good sound (plenty loud enough for my needs-I've never had it past 24 on the 1-100 scale), easy connection to everything else I own. br /If you don't mind having a separate remote just to turn the TV on and adjust the volume, then it's great.

4 out of 5 stars Just One Little Hitch On The Akai HD Television   November 21, 2007
Jay R. Adler (Massapequa,NY)
November 29, 2007 br / br /The good news is that the AKAI line of sleek LCD Televisions that are really moving in stores around the country offer an excellent price value without compromising picture quality and state of the art features. When I brought my set home and installed it in order to function with my Verizon Fios service, I soon found out that the Akai Company does not offer universal remote codes for the current line for some reason that as a consumer I am not privy to. This may mean that some abilities are limited such as the use of your dvr launched along with all other components by having one universal remote which in our case would be the Verizon. Conceivably, there may come a time where we can only work with the remote issued by our provider, but as of this date I am not at that point. There is no way now besides possibly purchasing an infrared code puller ($100)to control the Akai with a universal remote. For many obvious reasons including misplacement, nobody wants to get involved with two remotes. I am still recommending AKAI in hopes that one of the corporate players will correct this issue. br / br /Jay Adler, Music Critic

3 out of 5 stars Good TV but Poor Features   October 25, 2007
John Cortez (Ellwood City, PA)

This TV has great picture quality but unfortunately it lacks many features like no signal strength meter to help you in aiming your antenna for receiving OTA HD stations, no QAM tuner for most of us in the 21st century this means that you have to have a set top box in order to receive digital cable, no auto source select this means that you have to keep pressing the source button several times just to switch from one device to the next and this can be a bit of a pain as you can have 6 devices hooked up simultaneously. I would suggest if your going to buy this TV and want to watch OTA HD as well as QAM buy the Samsung DTB-H260F digital hd receiver and you will be quite pleased.

4 out of 5 stars Great Value   July 15, 2007

From the time the set arrived (on time and in fine condition) it was easy to set-up and use. I am delighted with the built in ATSC tuner and elegant simple design of the trim set itself. Like many shoppers I have been carefully comparing my purchase to other advertised TV's and such for 3 weeks since. It's still the best deal I can find anywhere!
