Great radio, poor quality control. December 5, 2008 VS (San Francisco, CA) I bought my first SRF-59 a couple of months ago and I really enjoyed it for what it is - a lightweight, no-frills radio with great AM and decent FM reception. Unfortunately, my unit started to sound scratchy during AM tuning, which I attribute to the faulty variable capacitor. Since the radio is so cheap, there's no point of fixing it so I bought another one. The new radio has no problems with AM tuning but the beginning of FM band is useless as the one strong station (88.5 MHz - KQED) kills reception for all other stations until approximately 94 MHz - you keep tuning for a quarter of the dial and it's still KQED. My previous SRF-59 didn't have the same problem, so there's something else that was left out during quality control.
Sarge November 30, 2008 Harry T. Mina Bought for my girlfriend. Said it worked very well, where she works. That's enough satisfaction for me.
analog vs digital November 23, 2008 Derek (Hudson, NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
compared to digital walkman br /on the plus side: lighter, smaller, one aa that lasts longer than 2aaa (way cheaper), stereo sounds good when reception strong, no instant shut off when battery low to save presets (so you have some time to replace battery) br /on the minus side: sounds bad when signal weak because it can't shift to mono (there should be a mono/st switch instead of local/distant), not as easy to jump from station to station.
my new walkman radio from sony November 10, 2008 sue smith (michigan usa) i really like the sony walkman fm/am radio it has a simply off and on button. the clip on the back does not open easy does not open wide enough to clip on my pants or shirt. so i put a sting on the clip and wear it around my neck so my hands are free to carry my weights while i am walking.
I Love This Radio November 9, 2008 Alec Trevelyan (USA) This little radio is the best! It's simple to use, ultra compact, and gets great reception. The headphones it comes with are not that great. Just switch them out for some small ear buds and you're good to go. For the price, you CANNOT beat this. Oh, and I love that it only needs ONE double A battery to function.
