Amazon.com Product Description First Sony helped create the DVD format. Then it introduced the DVD player critics hailed as "the reference standard." Now Sony releases its most affordable DVD player yet--the DVP-S330. This player is compatible with DVD, audio CD, and video CD formats and contains Sony's precision drive system with active tilt control. In addition, this high-quality DVD contains SmoothScan high-speed picture search and SmoothSlow slow-motion forward and reverse.
Product Description An entry-level DVD player in Sony's line-up, the DVP-S330 does have some niceties unique to Sony: namely SmoothScan and SmoothSlow searches. These features make forward and reverse scanning less jerky and more natural-looking.The DVP-S330 also automatically selects the soundtrack with the highest number of channels, which means that most of those annoying DVDs designed to default to the two-channel soundtrack will default to the 5.1-channel soundtrack with this player. Sony includes both coaxial and optical digital audio outputs, for compatibility with any Dolby Digital/DTS receiver. There's also an S-video output and a composite video output. This player features CD Text display, so you can see artist/track info from CDs encoded with such data. There's also a bit rate indicator and a bit rate history display, so video geeks can monitor the data content of their DVDs. The preprogrammed universal remote controls many brands of TVs, as well as the volume level of 8 brands of A/V receivers.

Another poor quality product from Sony February 5, 2006 James Bosch 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
After owning this DVD player for less than two years, it started indicating the error message C 13 00. Sony's product quality has really gone down in the last five years. Save your money any buy from a different manufacturer
Sony C 13:00 ERROR January 3, 2005 J. DuPont 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
Here is my advice to you who are thinking of purchasing this DVD player. The unit will work well for just over 1 year (365 days); beyond that, it's just a matter of time before you experience the "land of C 13:00". C 13:00 is the error message you will receive when the DVD player will no longer recognize a DVD-- clean, dirty, new, used, home made movie, or cinema DVD it will NOT read it! then you'll be stuck with a dust collector. This has been my experience. Sony doesn't mean quality like it once did. Don't believe me, search the net and see for yourself. J.D.
Do you like Kung Fu movies? June 17, 2004 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This DVD player was a gift. One great feature of the s330, as an entry level DVD player, is its optical output. Except for the problems I'm about to describe, I have been very happy with this DVD player for over 4 years. This DVD player has consistently had problems with the soundtrack and video getting out of sync. It makes feature films look like poorly dubbedHong Kong Kung Fu films. I also frequently have difficulty getting the DVD player to synch up with my Sony AV receiver when they are both powered up using the DVD input button on the AV receiver. Finally, I also just lost the power supply in a lightning strike. Now this is not Sony's fault, obviously, but it caused me to do research, indicating that power-up problems are frequent.
C 13 00 June 1, 2004 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Once this DVD player starts indicating the error message C 13 00, you might as well throw it in the garbage. Sony's customer service and web site is useless to get any resolve on problems with their electronics.
Don't Buy Sony Products November 25, 2003 J. Anderson (Midwest) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Sony products are garbage. A $200 player that breaks after 2 years, almost to the date, and costs $130-170 to repair is a joke. Sony should be ashamed of themselves. I have Pioneer and Toshiba equipment that I have been using for 10+ years, that has never needed anything. A DVD player that breaks after 100 uses is trash.
