pretty good January 9, 2009 tmp It works well. It hard to find this type of recorder in stores for a reasonable price, since the trend is moving away from cassetttes. This is exactly what I wanted.
High Quality Recorder; Amazon doesn't wrap/ship well January 8, 2009 lindas_books_etc. (USA) Sony's TCM-150 is my favorite recorder for college lectures. It has less background noise than the Panasonic, and picks up sound very well, even from across the room. I also prefer it to the digital recorders because you can't accidentally erase the whole thing, and the mechanical operation is much simpler. You also have a permanent recording on a tape that you can play on a boombox. I've used one for 1 1/2 years with no problems whatsoever (just bought a second one). Features are simple, Record, Stop, Play, Rewind, Forward. Has earphone jack, pause, and volume control. Careful with the battery light! It will start to fade when the battery is low. If you don't replace the batteries within a few hours, it will stop recording even with the light faintly on and the tape going around! For me, the recorder is still worth getting the hang of when to change the batteries. I ordered through Amazon and they didn't pack it well. A customer service rep just confirmed there is 1) no way to communicate requests when a new order is placed, and 2) no way to leave feedback on individual orders (he sent me here!). I had trouble with a past order, with my book being packaged loose in a box and the corners getting dinged up. So when I ordered my tape recorder, I e-mailed Amazon and asked them to please use adequate packing materials this time. They of course assured me that their shipping is top quality and secure. I got my tape recorder on the bottom of a box, no bubble wrap under it or anything. It works, but would you want your electronics dropped a few times in postal delivery across the country? There should be a feedback forum. Alas, Amazon has helped put bookstores out of business, but they are untouchable. No one can leave them a feedback rating. Customers cannot bring any pressure to bear on quality standards because they have no voice in this corporation. I buy a lot of used books from sellers, but the whole point of ordering direct from Amazon is to have brand new things shipped well (and shipped for free, though the overall cost is often the same), without the inconsistencies of used item sellers, some of whom are challenged in their ability to accurately describe and carefully ship an item. Amazon profits either way, so I can see why they avoid offering a feedback forum.
Quick service December 22, 2008 D. Delaney The cassette recorders arrived quickly and work well. They came brand new in the original packaging and were exactly what I expected.
Sony TCM-150 Cassette Recorder with Automatic Recording Level Control (Purchased on 10/26/2008) December 7, 2008 D. Glassburg Sony TCM-150 Cassette Recorder with Automatic Recording Level Control (Purchased on 10/26/2008) Thanks for replacing the defective unit so quickly! Very much appreciated.
Excellent tape recorder ^..^ September 18, 2008 Julie Swedien Johnson (Chicago, Il.) For recording purposes this is a fantastic unit. I am a writer and this is great for transcribing notes. It also comes in handy when I'm driving and need to record my thoughts and ideas. I prefer it to a microcassette recorder because this is an analog unit and analog is a much warmer sound than digital. Super easy to use, too.
