Amazon.com Product Description These super-light, ear-bud headphones weigh a mere five grams (.18 ounces.) They are the perfect headphone for those who relish lightweight, quality headphones. The silent cap confines the music to the listener's ear and away from those in the immediate area, a plus for those using the headphones in the coffee shop or library. The earphones are also open-air, meaning they allow ambient noises to enter the ear; this translates to a safer headphones, as the listener will be aware of horns, whistles and shouts. These headphones are constructed of an anti-bacterial material for a cleaner listening experience. The MDR-ED21LP's deliver a quality sound, even with their small size. The groove design and Bass Booster earpiece shape allows for a better fit; additionally, this system creates more bass response than conventional earpiece designs. The headphones use sixteen millimeter drive units for a deep bass and clear treble. Sony also uses neodymium magnets which provide more energy per ounce than other conventional magnets. The PET diaphragm gives the headphones a high rigidity for minimum distortion. Finally, Sony's Acoustic Twin Turbo circuit achieves high sonic output by utilizying sound chamber and duct technology. The cord is one meter long (3.3 feet) for ample range of movement. The housing is a modern, hi-tech, black and silver metallic finish. The compact carrying pouch stores the ear-buds and cord when not needed; its small size fits nicely in a purse or back pocket. OK Sound, Terrible Fit January 1, 2009 J. Thompson (Syracuse, NY) Pros: Sound quality is decent. Bass goes pretty low and the highs go pretty high without crackling. Bass is strong but not overpowering. Maybe a little not as strong as i would like. Also they are pretty stylish and feel well manufactured. Fit good enough that they won't fall out. Cons: The fit is terrible. The only way to help this is to pull them out some but then sound is more muffled, bass isn't there, and they are more likely to fall out your ear. It could be my ear but the design is obviously terrible. They aren't sleek at all but bulky at the base and i simple don't see how sony expected them to fit comfortably at all into someones ear, especially with the sharp outer edges where it touches ur ear. I simply don't get how they were designed with so many corners and expected to fit into the inside of someone's ear. Unless u have big obama ears that will losen them up on the inside of ur ear. Other thoughts: If you are gonna buy these, get them from a store at home, i got them from walmart for the same price as they were on amazon. This way you can try them on first or make a quick return like i am thinking about going to do tomorrow. If comfort is anything you're looking for when buying headphones, i would look elsewhere.
Good buy December 29, 2008 James A. Textor (Litchfield NH) Had these for a couple of weeks now and use them every day. Very happy with them-good base etc. Consider them a very good buy.
earbuds December 24, 2008 Gerald Maestas best earbuds I have.....i paid 75$ for a set of (blank) and i regret not having tried these sonys first.....
Best earbuds ever. December 12, 2008 David Macdougall (Boston, MA) These are perfect. They sound awesome, have great bass, and fit in my ears very well (my ears are on the small side, might not be as good if you have Obama ears). I had a pair that I bought 3 years ago that I loved but the cat got to them, so I bought a replacement pair +2 back-ups so I won't be without these if they stop making them. Buy them.
Cable too short! December 4, 2008 Groovymarlin These are really, really high quality earbuds, especially for the price. The sound quality is actually pretty amazing. I had a middling-quality pair of those "Inked" earbuds attached to my laptop at work. The sound quality was always disappointing, but I had sort of assumed that it was probably due to the laptop sound card, etc. Then today I attached my new Sony Fontopias and wow...what a difference! Yes, they have bass boost, but not so much that it overwhelms the music. These headphones are also surprisingly comfortable. They aren't the typical in-ear shape that gets jammed all the way into your ear, but there's a little more to them than the default "sort of hang in the outer part of your ear" that you get with the default iPod earbuds, for example. I like the hybrid, in-between quality and they fit me pretty well. They're not noise-cancelling, but the sound is so good that I really don't notice other office sounds (not even my disgusting cubicle neighbor who eats cookies like the Cookie Monster and sounds completely disgusting - now you know why I need to listen to music at work!). I'm so happy with the sound quality and comfort of these headphones, I'm willing to give then four stars in spite of one very major drawback: THE CORD IS RIDICULOUSLY SHORT. I have NEVER seen such a short cord on any pair of headphones, earbuds, headset, etc. that I have owned. I measured the cord from the jack to the point where the "Y" that goes to each individual bud starts, and it is barely 2 feet. TWO FEET! People, that is SHORT. So I'm going to go to Radio Shack at lunch today and buy an extension cord/adapter. So unless you're going to sit right next to the source you are connecting the headphones to, whether it's a computer or MP3 player or stereo, you'll need to add the cost of an extension cable to the price. Trust me - it's way too short as sold, like it wouldn't even stretch from my iPod in a backpack to my ears if I was walking around. Otherwise, awesome headphones.
