I purchased this product to serve multiple functions and it does them all well. I can not rate the cell phone charger function as I have not tested it yet - but given the generator charges the internal battery - it should work just fine in a pinch. The GMRS radio was the primary draw for me to this unit for general purpose use and use in an emergency. I have other hand held GMRS radios( Midland and Standard Horizon ) that work very well with this radio. The FM radio also works well as does the weather radio and alert function. I use the radio with external mikes and headsets with no problems. Five stars.

The radio doesn't get good reception. We had to attach an antenna, and still can't hear it well. I figured with the quality and price, it should receive better than it does.

Right now I am giving this product only one star because it does not arrive with the cell phone charging cable. You have to register with Eton before they will send it to you, and it takes 3-4 weeks. (Luckily I read this information from another purchaser, because the manual that came with the device mentioned nothing about this.) Also I bought two and asked for two cables and Eton sent me only one. It's disappointing because I had an Eton from about 5 years ago that came with a bunch of charging cables. This new policy of theirs is ridiculous. As for how it performs, now that I finally have the cable I can try out all the features and perhaps update this review.

I bought this radio at a sharper image closeout. I wish I didnt, as now I cannot take it back. TERRIBLE reception! The piece of junk radio I found on the side of the road picks up more stations than the FR1000 does. In order for me to get it to work I have to attach a jerry rigged aluminum foil antenna to the radio. Even then it still does not work very well. Eton tech support have been totally unresponsive. The hand crank dynamo only works while you crank, as the battery does not hold a charge very well.
Avoid this model...
