| Customer Reviews:
Why is the best one cheaper? January 7, 2009 B. Kelley I don't know why this Zoom has better specs than most yet is the cheapest handheld around. But I got one and have recorded wildlife in Yosemite and the Rockies, Live music, and sound effects and the quality and versatility are fantastic. When the unit is on you just press record and the meter bars display for level check, you adjust the level sensitivity and then hit record again to start recording. Its easy to switch mics for front or back angles or surround (4 mics). My only gripe is the display could be brighter in dark situations, but sound quality is great. It is also simple to download your sounds to PC. Just plug in and use windows explorer to copy the files.
Absolutely the best you can buy December 7, 2008 Susanna Hutcheson (Midwest U.S.A.) Good, high quality sound is important to me. I was looking for a good recorder for my podcast. I checked lots of reviews of numerous products and decided on this package from Unique Square. First, let me comment on Unique Square. They're the best to work with. I called them with a pre-sales question and got a fast, honest answer. Moreover, the shipping was fast. The recorder is excellent. You need to go through the printed manual and get acquainted with the various features and settings. Like all manuals, it leaves a lot to be desired. But, it's better than some. There are lots of features and settings. You may or may not use most of them. I find the unit sturdy. It's certainly bigger than a pocket recorder and probably not one you'll want to tote around to record memos. But for serious voice work, it's great. The condenser microphones are high quality. You can talk in a normal voice with the recorder a foot or more from you and get great sound. The unit is actually an entire sound system as it can normalize sound and it has other editing features. I personally prefer to edit on the computer. But you won't have much editing to do with this recorder. At least, I didn't. Mine came with a popper stopper and stand, along with the great Samsung headset for monitoring. Oh, and a word about the monitoring, there is NO latency! What you hear is what you get. It's a beautiful little system. And these headphones are fantastic. I highly recommend this recorder and suggest that you buy this package instead of just the recorder. It's cost-effective and you'll be glad you did. About the only thing I found that I didn't like is that you have to use earphones or a headset to listen to the recordings. There is no speaker. But everything is of the highest quality and I couldn't be happier with this package. Update: It's about a week later and I want to update the review to reflect my experience. I find the battery life bad. I did one twenty minute podcast and some other work with it on batteries and see they're ready to be changed. I advise you to use the included AC adapter as much as possible and to always have fresh, extra batteries with you wheh you're depending on the unit. I also discovered that when you change the batteries, you'll need to reset all of your settings except the time and date. This is a real inconvenience but not a deal breaker. Even with these undesirable features, I love the recorder. The sound is clear and strong. It makes your voice sound natural and rich. And it's great for interviews. Just keep in mind that it has limitations. But everything does. -Susanna K. Hutcheson
