Product Description The Onkyo TX-SR606 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver provides high-definition video and audio processing for four source components. Onkyo's RIHD (Remote Interactive over HDMI) gives you inter-operability with the displays and playback components from other leading brands. With an expanded version of Audyssey's room correction technology, the TX-SR606 maintains the fullness of surround sound audio quality at low volume levels. With the latest HDMI version and advanced A/V processing capabilities, the TX-SR606 is a powerful control center for all high-definition media, including Blu-ray Disc and HD broadcasts. The TX-SR606 has Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio to enable a lossless, bit-for-bit soundtrack that is identical to that of the studio master. Both codecs are designed for the Blu-ray Disc format. Dolby Digital Plus has been designed for high-definition video delivered via disc media, broadcasts and online content. DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, meanwhile, offers a greater bit rate, a higher sampling rate, and more channels than the core DTS technology. The TX-SR606's HDMI inputs can receive pristine digital video from HDMI-enabled components for a single-cable output to a display device with an HDMI or DVI connection. Great AV Receiver January 9, 2009 David J. Esteves Awesome product. Have been buying Onkyo amps and receivers since 1985 and have never been disappointed. Very reliable.

Onkyo TX-SR606 January 9, 2009 T. Harris (New London, NC) Great receiver, Great price! Very easy to set up. Have had it a couple months and I love it. No problems at all. Bought it for the HDMI ports. My tv only had 1 HDMI port, so I use the Onkyo to control my PS3, Xbox 360, and Cable Box. During set up, the receiver will adjust your surround sound settings based on where your speakers are located. This made a big difference in the sound on my system. I rate this item a "10"!
ok Value for the money but you can do better January 8, 2009 X. Fu (Irvine, CA USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I owns both this model and Yamaha RX-V663. The Yamaha cost about $100 more than this model. I prefers the Yamaha than this one. The Yamaha has a better sound and easier to operate. The biggest difference and major problems for Onkyo is the heat it generates. I know that all receivers generate heat which is normal. But the Onkyo generates disproportionally more heat, EVEN during standby, than any other brands. It may cause potential problems if you place it in a closed cabinet. I have to leave the door slightly open to keep the temperature down but wife keep close it. On the contrary, the Yamaha doesn't generate heat at all during standby and only modestly during normal operation. By the way, the Yamaha ranked by Comsumer report as the best for Blueray player. Again you pay for what you get. for a slightly more dollar, you get a signifcantly better product.
Great receiver, poor remote January 8, 2009 J. Decker (Austin, TX) I 'upgraded' from an Onkyo TX-SR702 (purchased in 2005) to the TX-SR606 for the HDMI and TrueHD support. The receiver works as advertised, sounds incredible and is what I expected given my great experience with the previous Onkyo. Overall extremely pleased with the performance and sound of the receiver. The on-screen menus are good and set-up/configuration is very easy. Only complaint is the remote, which compared the the one on the 702 is a huge disappointment. It isn't backlit, isn't a universal remote and has a very cheap feel to it. To be fair - it does the basic job of a remote and if it trimmed $50 off the price then I can't really complain.
