Product Description There are times you may have an external device, such as a portable 2.5" hard drive, and a standard USB cable is not able to transfer enough power to operate the device. This problem can be easily solved by using the USB 2.0 "Y" Cables. The cable features a red molded hood for the auxiliary USB A connector, allowing the user to easily distinguish between main and auxiliary power. Foil and braid shielding reduces EMI/RFI interference and a twisted-pair construction helps reduce crosstalk, ensuring high-speed, error-free data transfer. This cable is compatible with USB 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0 specifications.

Works fine, but not the solution for me! December 20, 2008 Bruce (Los Angeles, CA United States) I purchased this USB power cable to resolve an issue I was having with my Western Digital Passport external hard drive. My computer would recognize that the drive had been plugged in, but would not assign it a drive letter or let me access it. After researching online I found numerous websites that stated that the problem may be insufficient power from the single USB port. Buying a "Y cable" was suggested as the solution. However, it did not work for me. My solution was to take the housing apart then disconnect and reconnect the adapter board to the drive. It seems that my issue with the drive was due to a poor connection. However, since this review is about the cable, the cable works well, was inexpensive, and the shipping was timely. All in all, a good purchase.
Very long cable but works fine. September 12, 2008 F. Chan (USA) I used to have a very short usb Y cable that came with my Simpletech external hard drive. But I accidentally threw it out leaving me with no cable. I could have just bought a regular USB cable but I figured the hard dive came with a Y cable for a reason. So I bought one of these and it powered up my hard drive just fine. Sure it can be bulky since it's over six feet long but I can actually put the drive on my desk instead of on the floor like I had to do in the past. I would recommend this type of cable over a regular cable anytime.
Works, but bulky September 5, 2008 Thumbo (Simi Valley, CA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It does what it says, but it is absurdly bulky as USB cables go. The cable itself is thicker than most USB cables, and there is a large plastic lump - not shown in the picture - at the point where the two arms of the "Y" join. I bought this for use with a portable USB drive when traveling, so size matters. It manages to use more bag space than the USB drive itself.
Great August 20, 2008 A. J. Robinson (NYC) This is a great buy for a Hi-Speed 2.0 USB Y-Cable. I can say no more. BUY if you need it! I brought a mini B female to Male A gender changer connector for it as well.. and it works wonders.
