1 out of 5 stars Yes Virginia, you really do get what you pay for...   October 13, 2008

It is true, you really do get what you pay for when you buy a Norcent product. How many DVD players have I thrown away and now the TV is DEAD.

The price was pretty good on this item and overall picture was average. Some issues with smearing but I did not concern myself much with them because this is the bedroom TV. Sure the contrast ratio was around 600:1 and speed 16ms but I did not mind too much and was willing to overlook them.

However, when it starts acting oddly just after the warranty expires my initial concerns about price verses quality come to the forefront. There was a couple times the unit would not turn on. The light was on but no one was home. It was not until we unplugged it and let it set for awhile did we manage to get it fire up again.

Yesterday...nothing.

The power light does not come on at all in standby mode.

After just under two years a complete failure?

Disposable LCD TV anyone?

The thoughts of shipping this item back to the manufacturer does not sit well with me in the slightest. It would be around $100 shipping on top of the repair.

At the moment I am looking for the PSU board (715T1180-3) in the hopes that I can just swap out the part myself and get it running again. No need to spend hundreds in labour for around a dozen removed screws and a board swap.

Another thing before I fade away.

The Norcent Site is flagged by Google as having malicious code. Very odd indeed. I figured I would contact them for the part in question and try and save myself a tonne of money. My AVAST went nuts and with a little searching discovered the Google message about exploits running on this site.

Yes Virginia, you really do get what you pay for.

1 out of 5 stars power died after 6 months   September 19, 2007

DON'T BUY THIS TV. power went out on my 1st one after 6 months. i was able to contact norcent and shipped it to them and a month later they sent me a new one. i put this one on a voltage regulator to make sure it didn't have power problems. a few months later tv started having power problems where it would turn itself off randomly. now - less than 1 year later, the replacement tv won't even turn on.

We enjoyed the TV for the first 6 months. Pretty good picture, especially for the price. Then the power stopped working on the TV on 8/29/06. After 3 calls and 2 emails, they finally sent me the forms on 10/3/06. I sent back the forms and they are suppose to get me an RMA number so I can ship it back to be fixed/replaced. It is now November and they will not respond nor get me the number. Even when I get the number, I'll be really nervous to send it back as I may never see it again.

I recently bought this LCD from Staples for $550.00 and I can say that I am completely happy with the purchase. The video quality is great (after some adjustments) and it was very easy to setup.

I recently bought this model LCD from staples. I got it a really good price of $420 with tax and after rebates. Ok well the picture quality seems pretty nice and obviously the tv itself is very nice looking. I did however notice the response time on sharp movements are blurry. Now i bought this tv for the bedroom so im really not looking into watching action movies or anything. So really i am sacrificing some pic quality for looks and the fact that i got it a good deal helps.

now remember the contrast ratio is 600:1...that means it steps 600 shades from darkest to brightest rather than 5000 shades like plasma...so things can look a little blocky when you have large dark areas or bright areas the best lcd out there has around 2000:1 (which would be very expensive) and plasmas have aorund 5000:1 (which makes the pic unbelieveablely real). the response time is 16ms...they go from around 8 to 30...8 being the best and 30 being the worst.
Anyhow i wouldnt pay more than $550 for this tv. Otherwise i would wait till the flat tube tvs came out and im sure prices for lcds will go down.
