Excellent TV, but it also had some problems. October 22, 2008 Is It Dead Yet (The Dark) I bought the 32MF337B HDTV back in March 2008 as my first hdtv. It was on sale at Walmart ($617). Since then it has been used with PS3/HDMI and also for occasional regular tv watching. It has an excellent picture in 720p and its just about all you could want from a 32'' HDTV for around $600. Dynamic contrast, a sound equalizer, and a huge array of video inputs are the icing on the cake (though the main speakers, at 10 total watts are fairly weak). br / br /This tv does run in 1080P on any compatible device (PS3 or xbox360) but light artifacting occurs (for me at least), so i keep it in 720p. br / br /However, 7 months after purchase, the problem started this morning. Initially the TV would not turn on, the green-lit power button would show but there was no picture. After unplugging the AC power cord for a full minute and plugging it back in (as suggested in the manual), it would turn on normally again. br / br /The problem just got worse, however. 20 seconds later, the tv broadcast lost sound completely. Changing the channel or pressing anything on the remote causes the tv to lock up and become completely unresponsive. From then on, unplugging the TV and getting it restarted produces the same results. br / br / After warmup time in one of the video input channels, the problems almost disappeared, leading me to believe the problem is with the IR reciever and/or tuner. Things like my DVD player and PS3 work fine with it still. I still fear these problems will crop up again or get worse in the future. br / br /I am not about to take it to a repair shop and spend $400-$600 JUST on repair. And with the ridiculus 90 DAY WARRANTY, it was only a matter of time (i skipped on the $59 extended warranty, $600+ is enough to spend on a new tv, but I now regret that choice). br / br /As long as the tv is still working i feel satisfied with it. br / br /After this experience, I have some advice to offer: AVOID Magnavox products (also avoid RCA). If you need a good HDTV go with trusted brands like the Sony Bravia or Panasonic Viera. br / br / br / br / br / br /
Super TV and great service. June 16, 2008 Larry L Evans (Waterford, Mi.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The unit has preformed well above expectations and other then the wrong remote was sent by the manufacture, no problems. A quick email to Phillips and they sent a replacement remote right out. The service I received was as good as the product they provided. br /I am older (sixty-ish) so the sound system is more then adequate and the picture better then expected. br /I highly recommend the service and the products by Phillips / Magnavox. br /
Awesome Television June 12, 2008 Mel (Houston, TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I could not believe how inexpensive this tv was when I saw it in Target for $599 a few months ago. Since then, I had been wanting to get it, but decided to shop around instead. I was able to get this for $568 at Sam's and am thoroughly impressed by the picture. It was easy to setup and I can watch blu-ray discs in hd using my new PS3 as well. I had no idea what I was missing until I set it up and saw the differences in the movies and games. I couldn't be more happy with this inexpensive tv.
Great picture for a great price May 18, 2008 Silverado 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have had this TV for 1 week. It looks good in SD and brilliant in HD. You need to step it down to 4:3 mode in SD to make it look good. In HD the color and clarity are excellent. I just had Dish Network hook up the all HD package and I am very happy. I gave it 4 stars not because of the picture, but because of the remote. If you have Dish, you can program the 3 digit code into the Dish remote and control your TV with the Dish remote istead of the Magnavox remote. I tried all the codes listed for Magnavox by Dish. I tried the power scan where the Dish remote auto seeks the code. No luck. Does anyone who has this TV and Dish service have a sucessfull code that allows you to use the Dish remote to operate the TV? Even the Dish technician who was out to my house could not do it. I called Magnavox support and they were no help. Please let me know.
A great set, for a great price March 11, 2008 P. Tumara (the Mitten, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm very happy with our purchase of this Magnavox TV. I don't think I could have found a better set for the price. I'm not at all convinced that the more popular name brand televisions are 'better'. I saw one set that really appealed to me more than the one I purchased at our local Kmart store. It was a 50" Magnavox and it looked every bit as clear so I was slightly disappointed that ours is well... quite a bit smaller! There is every possibility that I could turn into much more of a couch potato than I ever was with the help of this tv company and Amazon! This was a good deal, in my opinion. I might have to use the parental controls feature so that there isn't too much 'tv time' going on around here. The set is ALWAYS on. The picture format menu pops on every time I turn the set on or change the channel but disappears fairly quickly so not much if any annoyance.. it's small stuff so I don't sweat that.. maybe will find that to be convenient as some point.. I am always busy doing more in my life than parking myself in front of the tv but with this tv, I'm much more inclined to be entralled with whatever's on the tv. I'm very much enjoying this purchase. I think it is the best tv we've purchased so far. br /The service from Amazon and the "White Glove" delivery was super. Very quick and the guy was very polite and cordial. Wouldn't hesitate to purchase a television in the future from here again.
