Amazon.com Product Description The Atlas GPS combines the technology and performance you want with the navigational functionality you need. Thanks to the unit's easy-to-use mapping functions, every major city, highway, river, and lake in North America are accessible via the 1.7-by-2.2-inch grayscale display (with 160 x 120 resolution). Add in a remarkably intuitive interface--which includes both "easy" and "advance" operating modes and an easy-scroll cursor--and you have an ideal GPS unit for everything from geocaching to exploring an unfamiliar city. The 12-parallel-channel, WAAS-enabled navigator comes with a built-in background road map of the continental U.S. and Hawaii, but is also expandable via optional Info, World, and Topo MultiMediaCards or MapCreate, MapCreate Topo, and Navionics mapping services. Once the maps have been uploaded onto the Atlas, you'll be able to create 1,000 waypoints, 1,000 event markers, 10 reversible routes, and 100 savable and retraceable plot trails, with up to 10,000 points per trail. It's also easy to save your data thanks to the internal backup memory and the expandable Secure Digital (SD)/MultiMediaCard (MMC) slot. The Atlas also has the ability to recall the addresses and phone numbers of your favorite restaurants and points of interest, not to mention every back road on the map. All this in a thin, easy-to-handle body that measures a mere 2.5 by 5.6 by 0.9 inches (W x H x D). Additional features include 40 map zoom ranges (from 0.02 to 4,000 miles) and an antenna port for connecting an optional external antenna. The Atlas, which weighs a mere 4.9 ounces, runs for up to 16 hours on a pair of AA batteries. It's also backed by a two-year warranty.
Product Description The Brunton Atlas features the StormWatch barometer that gives you current pressure, predicts the next 12-hours' weather, and brings you daily trends, and a 36-hour history. Add an altimeter function and the TrueMagnetic direct-access digital compass, and get a GPS that truly navigates. The StraightHome feature allows you to find your way back to camp or the trailhead without satellite aid by just the push of a button. Plug-and-play with all the Atlas accessories including Info, World and Topo MMC cards.

Brunton vs. Lowrance iFinder Expedition C March 11, 2006 Richard Eltzroth (Cotopaxi, Colorado United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This review is for the Brunton Atlas MNS. I compared the latest Brunton and Lowrance GPS receivers. Lowrance informed me by email that they in fact make the receiver for Brunton, which after looking at both it is obvious; they are almost identical! Except the Lowrance has a color screen and is much less expensive. In fact if you get the Lowrance Plus version with the included Mapcreate Topo 6 CD set and card reader you can save over $250. Either receiver will give you excellent results in the field. Battery life is fairly limited though. Lithium batteries last the longest but seem to be somewhat larger diameter than alkaline making the battery cover hard to close.
