We got two of these three years ago when we bought a house outside of city (and cable) limits and installed DirecTV. Both units have worked reliably and have never needed repair. Technical support was needed twice: telephone wait times were 2-10 minutes, support staff was polite and knowledgeable, and the problems were fixed during the calls.
The user interfaces (receiver and remote) are OK for us, but we do not use any advanced features. Based on my reading of the manual, setting up advanced features requires more steps than some competing receivers.
