| Customer Reviews: you get what you pay February 14, 2008 Edie Fletcher (lakeland,fl) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
ive had the model for 2 yrs and ive regretted everyday ive had it, ive never been impressed with this tv, my old rca 65" had a better pic even when watching hd on this model, ive used the rgb with hd, it was ok but not impressive, you cant use the pip with hd.and you cant adjust 480!/1080i in menu , the menu can change on you. best thing i can say about this model is its easy to use. i should have thought twice before i bought this i found it at sams for $1000. after 2 yrs the blues are green and a woman with red lipstick looks orange, when put this tv side by side with my daughters laptop and boy did it make the hdtv look real bad, the puter had a crisper picture, ours looked old and faded.
Poor service and warranty April 19, 2007 George (Lincoln, NE United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this tv for sports and movies. It is not our primary tv and as such doesn't get much use. The week of the Masters I'm all set to watch golf in hi def but the screen goes black. When I call Phillips they say it should be covered under warranty. The service tech comes out and determines the tv has a voltage problem. That's when Phillips says tough luck you are out of warranty. The repair estimate is $475.
I will not buy a Phillips product again simply because of the service issue.
the beast March 19, 2005 staypuff (alaska) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
first of all i bought this tv at sams club for $1299 and the service plan for around $199 in january
when i first started looking at tv's i decided i wanted something bigger than my curent 32 incher.
my uncle had just bought a 42 inch samsung projection tv and stand from sams club for around $1100 so i checked there and they were out of stock..so after looking around for a while i decided on a 55 inch wide screen philips from wal-mart that cost $1299
i wanted a philips mostly because i had just bought a new philips 6500d 5 disc dvd changer/home theater system.
the only problem was that wal-mart doesnt offer a service plan here in alaska so i decided to look at sams club agin because i knew they did.
so when i went there and saw the 60 inch beast for only $1299 and saw it was philips i was in love and bought it
i rented a u-haul because i dont have a truck and had a friend help me move it this was not easy it took us 3 hours to get it in my house at tempritures reaching -35 degrees below zero
i have 36 inch wide doors so that made it easyer but i also have a L shaped entry way with about 5 steps so that was the tricky part! defenatly needed help could not have done this myself!
so after i got the tv inside out of the box and connected to everything we watched alien vs predator and this tv is awsome
i would definately buy this tv agin i have had no problems since i bought it and have been very happy with the quality of the product!
i give philips 5 stars for there quality/price this tv is truely the beast.
if you are interested in this tv just make sure you read the other reviews at epinions.com they will explain more of the techical data about this tv the best info review i read is named
"a mixed bag" the author is right about everything:)
Wonderful TV... Great Price... March 7, 2005 Nicholas Miller 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Recently i had been looking into buying a Big Screen TV over 50" to replace my standard 32" crt in the living room. So the first decission to make was obviously widescreen or standard. I had settle my mind on a 55" mitsubishi widescreen and i had ordered it and everything. As i went and picked up my freezer from Sams Club i saw this monster sitting there at such a low price. So i run home and do a bunch of looking around in forums and reviews and came to the conclusion that i am canceling the order at best buy. Why? Because this TV is 60"... it will give around a 55" widescreen picture. So why pay more for less a TV. This one not only shows the picture the mitsu would but also shows more on standard movies and even more important cable television. It doesn't have a dvi input but i am using a radeon 9600 for the dvi out and i got a dvi>component converter so i can still do the 1080i with my card. It only has one component in also. but i am purchasing a reciever that will do the switching for me and i only need one input. So not only is the tv huge. its practical, its cheap, and what a wonderful all around look. The only thing i have beef with on this tv is that is has no real way to grab it and move it. Getting it up a stoop and through a door was a tough job so if you buy have them deliever it and bring it in for you. The back gaurd on it isn't very stable so its not a good thing to grab on. Weighs i would say around 200 pounds so you if moving yourself will need something more then the average house wife to help you with it. Other then the moving of it i have nothing bad to say. LOVE IT 4.5/5 Got mine at sams club for 1299. And for another 199 i got a 3 year service plan on it. Not only cheaper then best buy but cheaper then the manufactures warrenty... AND it goes into effect AFTER the manufactures warranty ends. Sorry for any bad grammar or spelling =(
Great picture for the price, easy to use, only 1 HD tuner March 17, 2004 jbowe (Concord, CA United States) 32 out of 32 found this review helpful
Update: Had a convergence problem where the red went all out of whack. Service guy came and fixed it with a new IC for about $250 (still cheaper than the extended warranty...). Apparently this can be common with many projection TVs.
Picture is still great after 2 years!!
Original review:
This TV is huge and is great for anyone that wants a big screen TV with standard 4:3 aspect, but still show a large 16:9 widescreen display for under $2K. The widescreen is 55"! It is beautiful as my wife has said. I recommend this TV for anyone that is on budget, not that this TV is cheap. The size and picture are absolutely stunning. I've only had minor issues with this product. The single HD tuner required me to purchase an HDTV swither so that I could play 480p (progressive scan) DVD's and also hook up my HD cable TV box. I bought the MadCatz HDTV swither for $20. Works great. The HD tuner cannot understand analog or 480i signals. I don't know if this is normal, but being a newbie at this stuff, it took me a while to figure out the right configuration for all of my hardware. The TV comes with a protective screen which has already paid off since my kids have written on it with pens and also scratched it within the first 2 weeks of ownership. Also, closed captioning is not an option under HD mode, unless you switch it on "manually" through the cable box or subtitles on the DVD player. I couldn't figure out how to turn it off until a service guy came out and figured the problem. The manual omitted that you cannot control it through AV-4 (HD mode). Customer Service was responsive when I contacted them regarding the closed captioning issue. My Playstation 2 is also fun to play on this set.
