Product Description
Movie lovers, rejoice! This Toshiba TheaterWide 42H82 television delivers everything you've been dreaming of. DFine high-speed velocity scan modulation improves contrast and overall picture sharpness by changing the speed of the electron beam as it transitions between bright and dark areas of the picture. HD Dynamic Contrast continually analyzes picture information and enhances those parts of the picture with the most detail information, which results in a sharper, deeper, more film-like image. SRS 3D sound field expander system creates a wide 3-dimensional sound field from the television's internal speaker, which enhances sound quality without the addition of external speakers. And with Direct Video Input Selection inputs can now be directly selected from the remote's numbered keypad without scrolling through all the inputs. Superb performance and comfort - that's what marks this TV.

Amazon.com Product Description
Brimming with high-tech features, Toshiba's 42H82 widescreen projection set is ready to render vivid, smooth, and detailed video signals from DVD players, digital TV set-top boxes, digital satellite systems, cable television boxes--you name it. Heading the great features is IDSC Pro, which coverts all 480i and 480p signals (as from progressive-scan DVD players and DTV set-top boxes) to 540p. Since 540p and 1080i share the same scan rate, the 42H82 establishes a single focus point, eliminating focus compromise. Frame, line, and pixel doubling are all used to create progressive, full-frame images from standard interlaced signals (such as composite-video signals from DVD players, VCRs, and camcorders).

Toshiba's motion-adaptive Hyper Progressive Scanning system analyzes 13,600 points onscreen to create smooth edges and eliminate "stair-stepping" artifacts. The resulting smooth, filmlike image is enjoyable even up close. IDSC Pro passes through 1080i images without alteration, and now accepts 720p images and displays them as 1080i. Multiwindow dual-tuner picture-in-picture (PIP) grants PIP functions without the use of a VCR as a second source. This lets you scan through all stations on nine boxes across the bottom of the screen--you can even use the boxes to scan preset channels. A stellar 3D Y/C (4 MB, 10-bit) digital comb filter with Vertical Contour Correction provides more accurate processing of RF and composite-video signals for a sharper, cleaner picture. This advanced comb filter significantly reduces detail noise, seen as shimmering or flicker, in complex scenes. CableClear Digital Noise Reduction circuitry optimizes poor NTSC signals from antenna or cable, and Dual ColorStream HD component-video inputs provide the ultimate picture quality from high-resolution component-video signals (as from DVD players and satellite receivers).

New to this model are DFine high-speed velocity-scan modulation, which improves contrast and overall picture sharpness, and HD Dynamic Contrast, which continually analyzes picture information and sharpens and deepens those parts with the most detailed information. Cinema Mode circuitry (3:2 pulldown switch) identifies original film-based content from DVDs, then reassembles the frame sequence to more accurately reproduce the original 24-frame-per-second material. The TouchFocus automatic digital convergence system creates perfect corner-to-corner focus at the press of a button. Manual override adjustments are available. For audio, the 42H82's SRS 3D Sound Field Expander creates a wide, three-dimensional sound field from the television's internal speaker, which enhances sound quality without adding external speakers. StableSound maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. Toshiba's Sub Bass System (SBS) boosts a program's low-end audio. This unit comes with an illuminated universal remote control.

5 out of 5 stars forget the plasma or lcd   January 10, 2004

After careful and I mean a year of careful web searches on info on large widescreen t.v's in crt, plasma and lcd we took the plunge and with our hard earned dollars purchased a 42H83 the latest model offered by toshiba. I believe we made the correct choice. Sure its not 6 inches deep like plasma but 18 inches is pretty slim. The picture quality after our adjustments is as good or better than plasma or lcd. Watching standard broadcasts takes getting used to on a widescreen but no big deal. We have it hooked up to a DTS 5.1 receiver and a progressive scan DVD and watching widescreen movies is awesome.

5 out of 5 stars Awsome TV!   September 28, 2003

The quality on this TV is out of hand! Good projection and sharp graphics on any movie you can watch! Perfect for a Home Theatre system. Price is competitive and I was impressed with what I got. I would recommend this for any home buyer putting a system together!

5 out of 5 stars Awsome TV!   June 25, 2003
I got this tv recently. I must say I am blown away. the picture quality is superb. The sound is great! I love this tv. The tv comes with a suround sound feature that envelopes you. There are times I have gone to my door because I thought someone was knocking at it. But then I realize that it was just the tv. That is hw great the sound is. The sound on this tv is better than that of most surround sound systems. The picture quality is superb as I said before. The lines are clear and crisp. I love it. I love playing my video games in high definition widescreen. nothing makes me happier. I must say I am also pleased with the number of inputs this tv has. 2 S-Video, 2 Component Video, and all the analog you would need. Least just say I love not javing to go behind this tv to hook anything up. I have a DVD, 3 video game consoles, a vcr, and my cable all hooked up at once. It is a beatiful thing! I also want to mation one last thing before I end my praise to the tv. The menus are simple and easy to figure out. There are enough settings to make any control freak happy. And they are easy for anyone to figure out. Well to say the least this tv is the perfect tv. Unless you want a bigger one that is. But 42 inches is big enough for me. I lvoe this tv and anyone who buys it will certiantly get everything they want and more!

1 out of 5 stars lousy services   April 23, 2003

~We bought total six Sets and sold five of them. The last one was an reward to employee. It was DOA. Called Toshiba on Feb.13. They redirected the service to local third party service company. Technican came and looked at it. It was defective and needed repaired. Parts was not available and would order through Toshiba. One month later, nobody came back. Called again, the service center said that you needed to bring that TV in for service. Called Toshiba and was told that there is on site warranty~~ for thismodel. The service center was supposed to pick up the defective TV. The service center told Toshiba that we refused to have them picked it up (which was a lie that they later admitted). Then Toshiba referred another TV repair shop to handle the situation. They were supposed to pick up the TV yesterday. NO ONE SHOWED UP. CALLED TODAY, NO BODY SEEMED TO KNOW WHAT WENT WRONG. WE FILED COMPLAIN THROUGH BBB. AND thinking possibly filing small claim court against Toshiba.~

5 out of 5 stars The best thing I own   March 15, 2003

I purchased this TV back in August after about a month of research. I am very careful when making large purchases so I like to read up quite a bit on the products available. After reading reviews from professionals and consumers I had decided on the Toshiba 41H81.I could not be happier with this set. When I first got the TV I was a little disappointed with the picture. I decided to let it go for a while and after the 100 hour recommended break in period the picture was a million times better. I also had to change the settings on the picture quite a bit. When you look at TV's in the store they will tend to change the settings of the higher priced TVs to the optimum settings so they can talk you into spending more. With some quick adjustments (I highly recommend buying the Avia guide to home theater. It is a must have for setting up your home theater and adjusting the picture on your TV) the picture on this TV was amazing. As for the features... I love watching TV in widescreen. I was initially worried that the picture would look distorted but after about a day you really don't notice it. Another thing I enjoy is that instead of picture in picture this TV has a feature where you can split the TV screen in half. I can watch and listen to the TV while my friends can play video games on the other half of the TV. I definitely like that feature. As for the sound, I can not really comment on that. I listen to everything through my surround speakers. I have the TV sound turned off. I have heard reports of a light "hissing" sound but the few times I turn up my TV's volume I do not hear it. All in all I could not be happier with this television. Like my title says, It is the best thing I own (sorry car).
