Product Description The Neo Slim-Width Design delivers up to 45 watts of high quality audio from a built-in subwoofer and satellite audio system, allowing the cabinet to be approximately at least 2 inches less wide than typical 32" HDTV Monitors. The TXN3298HFX is compatible with progressive scan DVD players (480p). It can display 1080i HDTV signals from an optional HDTV receiver/decoder (via DVI-HDTV or from the auto sensing wideband component inputs).
Amazon.com Samsung's stylish, 32-inch TXN3298HF DynaFlat high-definition digital TV monitor offers full 1080i input capability for use with a DTV set-top box or a progressive-scan DVD player. The set uses a 4:3-aspect ratio DynaFlat HD screen with an anti-distortion/anti-glare picture tube. Its Pro Chip Plus NTSC-to-480-progressive-scan system converts all incoming analog sources (like VCR, cable, or non-progressive DVD) to a 480p display, eliminating conventional TV scan lines for a "flicker free" picture. P An especially attractive feature of this feature-loaded TV is its "neo slim-width" design, which conserves space while delivering high-quality video and audio. A separate enclosure houses a 25-watt powered subwoofer in the back of the set, eliminating the need for bulky side speakers. The mid- and high-frequency speakers (10 watts each) reside in the front panel, optimally positioned beneath the screen. P Total DSP (Digital Signal Processing) converts standard analog broadcast TV signals to digital and compensates for varying signal strengths, while the set's 8-bit, 20 MHz 3D Y/C comb filter removes blurred edges between colors and reduces dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped t-shirt). Velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas. P The TXN3298HF also offers 3:2 pulldown. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture. Samsung's DNIe Video Enhancer (or Digital Natural Image engine) enhances all analog NTSC and wideband video inputs for an overall improvement in picture quality. DNIe improves contrast, white level, and picture detail, incorporating digital noise reduction to improve low-quality video sources. P A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing in a brighter, clearer picture. All onscreen information and menus appear in translucent overlays, letting you view video programs in the background while you consult the setup menus. P Other features include two-tuner split-screen picture-in-picture, BBE High-Definition Sound (improves speech intelligibility and restores the dynamic range of compressed musical passages), V-Chip parental controls, and plug-and-play setup, which uses automation and a simple menu to select the source (broadcast or cable), set the clock, and map the active channels. P Inputs consist of a DVI-HDTV input for direct digital connection with a DTV receiver, dual high-definition DVD/DTV component-video inputs, an RF input (for an older VCR or cable box), three rear and one set of side-panel audio/video inputs (including one S-video input) to accommodate a camcorder, game console, or other sources. The set comes with a universal remote control. P iWhat's in the Box/ibr TV, remote control, remote batteries, user's manual, and warranty information.

New model fixes settings problem January 27, 2004 Kevin H. Barkan (Durham, NC USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The picture and sound are awesome on this TV. Many of the reviews here are copied from an older model, the TXM3298HF. The new model TXN3298HF, released in the first half of Jan 2004, remembers all of your settings when turned off. (How did that ever get into distribution?)pAlso notice the unfair skewing that rating the dealer has on what people actually have to say about the TV. I bought mine elsewhere, and have no complaints.pThe DNIe image enhancement engine, and automatic conversion of signals to higher quality mean that I don't see any improvement by switching my DVD player to progressive scan. Might sound like a complaint, but it just means the TV's doing a great job cleaning up incoming signals.pThe S-Video input is still on the left side, making accessing it difficult for those of you who need it. I don't, so it's no big deal.pMy complaints about the TV are very minor:br* The velocity scan picture enhancement does a nice job of improving the picture, but has a very subtle effect of making the low-contrast details of an image swim after the high contrast portions. For instance, if somebody jiggles their head, the eyes, mouth and other high-contrast portions of their face move quickly, but the subtle lines on their forehead move very slightly slower. My wife doesn't notice it, so maybe you won't. The digital noise reduction should only be used on bad signals: it blurs good ones.p* Pushing the quick-access settings buttons on the remote produces two different effects. Some buttons display the current setting, others immediately change it. If you have a regular, one rca cable signal on one input and a component on another, you may have to push one button four times to change to the rca input, and another button two times to switch to the component. If you have a universal remote with macros, it's not a problem. If all of your inputs are s-video, digital or component, you can use one button to switch between all inputs.
Use the DVI Interface November 25, 2003 Ole (Saint Paul, MN United States) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I selected this TV because of the size. This set is designed to be less wide than most 32" sets so it fit perfectly into my cabinet. Delivery was great. The scheduling was easy and two guys delivered it into the house and down the stairs (this baby is heavy). pBe sure you can use the DVI interface for input to this TV. When I first hooked it up to my high definition cable box via component video the HD channels were a little wavy around the edges. Not bad, but noticable. Once I purchased a DVI cable (100 bucks!) and hooked it up via DVI the picture on this set was pefect. Looks fantastic.pOne thing to watch out for is that the only S-Video input is on the side and if you have the set in a cabinet you can't access it.
Great value, not as slim as hoped November 7, 2003 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I bought this set from Amazon and am overall pleased with it. br brThe Good: The picture is unbelievably good even compared with Sony's 32 inchers. The low price makes this set a steal. pThe Bad: I originally was interested in this tv because it is the only 32 incher that was narrow enough to fit in my entertainment center. After I got it, I went to hook up my DVD and realized the set's only S-Video connection is on the SIDE of the set- there was not enough room for me to hook up my DVD player.pThe Ugly: Shipping took 11 days from order date to in my living room.
great set great price questionable shipper October 18, 2003 tvguyer (chicago, il United States) 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
I ordered this tv after looking for a set that would fit in my entertainment unit to replace a 32 inch set, and this was the only 32 inch hdtv that would fit in the spot, also it had many features and had a reat picture. i looked at one at my local goodguys electronics store and the were charging 1300 plus tax, so i searched and amazon had the same on e for 994 plus 99 shipping, so iI ordered it from them, well the product says usually ships in 24 hours, but remeber usually, it took 5 days before they shipped it, then the shipper egl logistics had a 5 day delivery with this unit, and after 3 days, I checked thier website and put in the tracking number, and that saturday it was at my local airport and scnnned by egl, 2 days later I got a call from egl saying they could only deliver this item between 10 and 12 on a tuesday, well i work for a living and was off that monday, but was told they are not in my area on monday, and that the package was not even n the area at this time even though it was sitting on thier dock, as per thier tracking system on thier site. so I had enough and called amazon and they got back to me and said that you can not track items with egl and to call thier 800 number, real customer service would have done this for me, so I called the 800 number and was told that indeed the product should be in my home on thursday and they were calling the local office to investigaste, oh yea i was on vacation for the whole week but had to return to work that friday, which I thought was one day after the product should have been delivered, and they agreed and somehow egl found a way to get me the set on that thursday, i also bought a warrantee from servicemaster which extends the warranty by 4 years after the unit is out of waranty for 110 buck, bottom line on set = 4 bottom line on amazon service -1, and egl, for coming thru a 4, if you have probs, call egl direct.
