Amazon.com Product Description Jump into tomorrow with the 42-inch Daewoo DP42SM widescreen plasma EDTV. It has a tiny footprint of just over 3 inches in depth and it delivers a full, rich cinematic experience with its 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. Other features include a 480p native resolution (853 x 480 pixels), a 160-degree viewing angle, a 3D digital comb filter, and built-in stereo speakers. The DP42SM accepts inputs in all major DTV formats (1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i). It produces an astoundingly bright picture with 600 candelas per square meter. It has five selectable picture modes for excellent performance in a wide variety of lighting conditions (4:3, 16:9, Panorama, Zoom1, and Zoom2), five sound modes (standard, movie, music, news, and user selectable), and a 3D digital comb filter for enhanced color purity. Its built-in stereo speakers produce 16 watts of power each. It has a good assortment of connectivity options on the back of the set, including a 15-pin PC input, 2 component inputs, 2 component-video inputs, 2 composite A/V inputs, and external speaker outputs. Tech Talk EDTV: Abbreviation for enhanced-definition television, which is a subset of the new digital TV specification. This format produces 480 lines of progressive-scan resolution (or 480p). Aspect ratio: The aspect ratio refers to the shape of the video image. Standard television has a 4:3 aspect ratio, which is almost square in appearance. Digital television will have either a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio, which is widescreen and appears rectangular, looking more like a movie screen and filling more of the viewer's field of vision for a more lifelike viewing experience. Scanning method: Frames of video are made up of many lines of video that are scanned onto a television screen so closely they appear to be a solid picture. The scanning method can be either interlaced or progressive. Interlaced scanning (also used in today's analog TV), indicated by an "i" in the video format, fills in the odd number lines (1,3,5,7...) and then fills in the even number lines (2,4,6,8...) until the frame is complete. Progressive scanning, "p," fills in each line consecutively until the frame is complete, like a computer display. What's in the Box DP42SM 42-inch TV, remote control, 2 AAA batteries, 1 AC power cord, 1 15-pin PC cable, 1 audio cable, 1 A/V cable, and printed operating instructions.

BEST Plasma for the price January 12, 2008 Tark Mwain 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have had this plasma and have been using it daily with normal 480i cable signal since 11/05. I finally hooked it up to hd signal this week and the picture looks awesome. I came online looking for specs for this plasma because I couldn't believe it was only 480p. It looks as good as the 1080i plasma sets I have seen. Incredible value since you can find these on ebay and craigslist used for around $600. If you can buy one used cheap don't pass up the opportunity. A+++++
great picture, very good service December 23, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful

I purchased the daewoo dp42sm plasma, had a small blue line through the picture. called the mfg...they issued a pick up authorization. Then I read the horror stories that this column wrote, got scared that I would be treated the same way.
I experienced none of the problems listed in this review of comments. They replaced my unit with a new unit as they said they would. I was finished with the process just under 2.5 weeks. I don't know what made the difference, but the experience was not as bad as I was made to believe.
A happy customer --- with my plasma tv back in the great room!
Buyer Beware May 16, 2005 Mike H (Washington) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Although I bought this plasma because I liked the very sharp and clear picture, it has a common problem that I didn't discover until recently.
There was a "pop" sound then the picture went black. I have spent the last 30 days with Best Buy and the Daewoo trying to get a new television. I have had the plasma for one year and did purchase the extended warranty. The service tech says that it cannot be repaired but the manufacturer will not respond and Best Buy does not want to give up a new set until they hear from Daewoo. Nice tv, lousy service from Best Buy and Daewoo.
Most bang for your buck April 15, 2005 Tony Sosa (Baltimore, Md) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
The Daewoo tv is spectacular and is more than I could have dreamed for the price. You won't be sorry if you get one of these. Now I've seen the price at about 1,500 I paid 1,999 a year ago and am very pleased as you can probaly tell.
DO NOT BUY WITHOUT SERVICE PLAN!!! February 3, 2005 S. Schmidt (Lincoln, Ne) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought a 42" Daewoo from Best Buy a little over a year ago
and today as we were watching it there was a loud pop and the
picure just went black---nothing. Thanks God I bought the 4 year
extended service contract but right now I wish they offered more
like a 10 year contract. Never had a television go out after only one year, makes me wonder what else is in store.
