L-com's MICROPULSE? Fiber Optic Light Source eases the difficulty of tracing fiber optic cable runs by using innovative MICROPULSE? technology. Presently, to trace multimode terminated fiber runs, two types of equipment can be used. The first, a laser source, is expensive and dangerous to one's eyesight if viewed directly. The second method is to use an incandescent light source (flashlight) with a coupler to connect to the fiber optic termination. These devices produce a low intensity light signal, which is difficult to see by the human eye. L-com's solution to this problem was simple: Produce a low cost, high intensity light source that is safe to use and easy for the eye to locate. This was done by creating exclusive circuitry that produces an extremely bright red light source that is pulsed in an on-off manner that is easy for the eye to locate. ST Fiber light source July 19, 2008
I bought this to compliment the one I use at work. Having 2 light sources enables you to test both sides of an ST fiber pair. Unlike this LED light source, using a laser light souce is good for finding breaks in the fiber, until you accidently catch the intense laser beam in the eye. I saw spots for a couple of days! This LED light source will not blind you if look at it. With two units in use, it's great for checking continuity of the an ST fiber pair. The price is right.
