We purchased this scanner as a replacement to an older model that was SCSI connected. We already had software in place for the paper capture/character recognition so that was not really considered in deciding on the purchase. We have since found this scanner to perform the functions perfectly. I set some of the scan preferences for our users and they simply select an option for the type of document they want in the result (PDF, Text etc) and watch in amazement at how fast this thing performs the job. In fact we are considering a second scanner to replace another older model. br / br /Overall we are very satisfied with our purchase.
 Great tool for creating electronic documents May 13, 2007

Not all of the software required to use this scanner effectivly came in the box. I was having problems using it until I found the sheet that told me to how to download the software for the scanner. I will be using it to scan over 300,000 3 x 5 index card of birth and death information for our Genealogy society. If my budget would have allowed it I would have gotten the I1310 so I could scan both side of a page at one time.
