1 out of 5 stars Sony Quality Control Failures   December 3, 2008

The motor on this thing burned out at 120 days. As it is out of its 90 day warranty (all but useless anyway), I now have a $30 piece of junk. This player has been treated with TLC, no drops, no bangs, no thumps, no mistreatment of any kind. br / br /If you purchase this player, please listen to your motor. If it is giving off audible noises (it should be almost dead silent) so that you need to have the player further away from you just so the noise doesn't degrade the music, you are hearing the motor burn out. If you are within the warranty period, I suggest you return it immediately. Don't wait for the end. br / br /On start up, if the unit does any searching at all to find the first track, or gives you a "no disk" message, you are looking at a failing player. It should just kick to the first track and play. br / br /The earphones are pretty useless for me. They are "in ear" and if they don't fit, you'll quickly be looking for a new set. That's a questionable investment given the low manufacturing quality of the player. br / br /The track programming is very limited. It works only in numeric sequence, i. e. track 1, 2, 3, etc. You cannot program say, tracks 3, 1, 2. Also the programming act itself is clumsy and difficult to get right. br / br /The player just feels flimsy and cheap. I don't have any better suggestions, but this thing is not a first choice. Unfortunately cd players seem to be dieing off under the mp3 deluge. br / br /

This is really great. I can stop it and it will pick up where I left off on my language CD. I even bought some speakers so I can play it for others.

You have my sympathy. If you're old enough to remember long playing records which delivered better audio, high fidelity than anything since, then you may have now noticed that inferior sounding Ipod's and mp3 players have been rapidly replacing portable CD/MP3 players which I still like to use to play all those CD's that I've accumulated over the years, on the go, or late a night. Well, if you visit [...], these days, you will see only four, very cheap, walkman cd models remaining. Years ago, I used to own a couple of portable Aiwa cd players that lasted for several years. Then, I had a Sony Walkman for a little over a year that broke, then a Panasonic SL-SX480A (now unavailable) that lasted a year and half; recently, a Memorex CD/MP3 player that was immediately, defective and lastly, the Sony DEJ011 CD Walkman that lasted about two weeks. Oh yes, the warrantee you are thinking. Well, once you send in your defective, new cd player, it is replaced by a "rebuilt" that is only covered for ninety days. Replacement plan, you say? Yes, for an extra $15-$20. that's an option, but remember, you have to be out of the manufacturer's warrantee period to even get to use it. So, now I'm on my fifth or sixth player in less than a year (this time a Sony D-NF340 CD Walkman MP3 Player w/FM Tuner), and I'm praying it may prove the exception. If it is, I'll even order two, expecting that in a short time, I won't be able to find even one decent cd/mp3 portable player left on the market.

4 out of 5 stars Sony CD Walkman   November 19, 2008

I am quite satisfied with this product. Very simple controls, but might be better to have the instructions in a booklet rather than on the cardboard packaging. With the included earbud speakers audio quality is sufficiently good for books on CD. Battery life is quite good (about 15 hours). Battery replacement is easier if you use a small screwdriver to pry out batteries.
