As noted in another review, what you see in the product shot is not what you get, and that's a good thing. The OEM cord on our laptop frayed bare within months and seemed deviously designed to fail. Blame it on Carly Fiorina. br / br /The "Hi-Capacity" AC adapter purchased as a replacement is designed to avoid failure. The cord connects to a barrel in a T-joint, and one side of that "T" barrel connects to the laptop. That solid piece absorbs the incidental stress, resulting in less wear and tear on the cord. br / br /Also worth noting: the outlet is a two-prong polarized, not a three-prong grounded. I'm not qualified to authoritatively address the safety of such a decision, but I've no fear using it unless there's thunder above. Practically, in our older home with few three-prong outlets, it's nice to be able to plug it in anywhere. br / br /Four stars because it's only been a month or two. Beyond the unknown reliability, it's all one could hope for in a power cord. br /

My experience with laptop chargers is that 90% fail due to wire fatigue at the plug end. This unit has a tapered plug, which helps. The only solution I've seen to this problem (or the solder joints on the power port in the computer breaking)is Apple's magnetic power ports. As usual, Apple is the innovator and the rest will probably follow suit eventually.

Though the specs and pics don't show it, this adapter has actually been redesigned. The plug that inserts into your computer has a housing which is reinforced and turned at a 90 degree angle. With this design, strain is reduced on the most vulnerable part of the cord and also provides a more secure connection to the computer. br / br /I had to replace the factory sent adapter because the area by the plug became worn and even frayed. I HAVE to move my computer a lot and I bring the plug. This adapter is better equipped to handle the strain I put on it. And yes it is pricier than other adapters on this site, it's less likely that I'd be replacing it as soon as the other traditionally designed adapters.
