4 out of 5 stars Easy and great sound from inexpensive system!   December 1, 2008
Kevin Early (Colorado Springs, CO)
I just purchased this on "Black Friday" at another retailer for $199.00, and I am not disappointed! I purchased this system for a new house that we moved into without pre-wiring for surround and in a room that was not really a great set-up for multiple surround speakers. I was looking for something to add to my HDTV/DVD setup without breaking the bank and would give us much more sound than just the TV speakers. I have to say that I was really surpised with how much sound came from the system. I had it setup in 5 minutes and turned on the first action movie I came to "Live Free or Die Hard" The subwoofer really sounded great with all of the explosions and the dialog was easily understood. After tweaking the setup a little, I sounded even better. VERY easy to setup and great to listen to. Well worth the $199 I paid and even the $299 Amazon has it listed for. It also has multiple HDMI inputs for TV, DVD, and GAMING SYSTEM. Does it have the full effect of a true 5.1, 6.1, 7.1 system? No, but if you want to add some great sound to your system without adding wiring, mounting speakers, and shelling out big bucks, this is the way to go! br / br /

4 out of 5 stars Nice alternative   December 1, 2008

I purchased this unit to accompany a LCD flat screen that I had installed in my bedroom, after being disappointed with the sound of the television. It was easy to mount under the TV, although there was no cutout in the back of the speaker to route cables going to television. The solution to this was to mount the speaker on a 3/4 inch piece of wood (painted black)to allow the cables to route behind. This also let me hit wall studs to ensure it did not come down. br / br /The sound is SO much better than the television speakers. It obviously does not match the sound of a full blown surround system driven by a large amp, however it fits the bill for my needs as a second system in the bedroom. I saw a prior review that it was not listed as a compatible device for a Harmony remote- THIS IS INCORRECT. I have a Harmony remote and it IS a device listed and my remote is controlling my system perfectly. The only con I have is no television display with the SONY unit. It would be nice to be able to see volume level on the television since the main unit sits on the floor. Overall, however, I am very happy with this purchase- especially at $199.

4 out of 5 stars Not bad.   December 1, 2008

I was pretty impressed by this thing. It actually produces a pretty decent surround sound effect, with plenty of bass. It can't replace a real surround sound setup, but its way, way better than TV speakers. br / br /A couple things: br / br /1. The volume doesn't get very high, so if your looking for a living room setup, than don't bother with this. However, it is IDEAL for a small bedroom. br / br /2. There is no equalizer or manual adjustment of bass/treble. There are only pre-configured settings you can use, which I had no problem with, but it's worth noting. br / br /Overall, this is a great system. It's very simple to use, and easy to setup (took me about 5 minutes). The sound quality is excellent, and really does sound like an authentic surround sound setup. If your looking for a surround sound system for a small room and don't want to spend too much money, you can't go wrong with this product.

5 out of 5 stars Sony CT-100, very happy with it !!!!!!!!!!   November 30, 2008

I have owned more than a few full-on 5.1 systems, Onkyo, Denon, Bose, Yamaha and Samsung just to name some,, so I do know what a real system sounds like and can do. br /A few years ago I got to the point were I was tired of wires and speakers all over the room so I switched to the Yamaha YSP soundbars and have since owned the YSP-800, 900, 1100 and 4000. br /Then I started seeing some really great reviews of the new Sony HT CT-100 online and on AVSforum.com so I decided to pick one up and check it out. br /I was wondering how a soundbar selling for so cheap would sound, my verdict, it sounds really good. br /The price, the 3 HDMI inputs, the ease of use, the sound and a few other things make this a killer little soundbar,,, very happy with the purchase and its a keeper. br /Do understand that to make the CT-100 sound its best you will need to play with the settings and make sure to set your BluRay player to PCM output and "NOT" Bitstream. br /How does the Sony compare with the YSP's I have owned,, not bad at all. While the YSP's do put out a better surround effect the Sony comes very close to sounding as good as the YSP's. br /Anyhow, bottom line, the CT-100 is a great purchase !!!!! br / br /Cheers br /Davyo

5 out of 5 stars My 2 cents....LOVE IT!   November 30, 2008
Tom Munson (flagstaff, AZ)
Let me just start off by saying I was a Radioshack employee for over a year. I've seen/heard alot of home theater systems come and go. I'm very familiar with all the equipment out there and what "quality sound" is. I previously owned a large pioneer receiver that put out about 800 watts with complete surround sound setup. It was fantastic, but I had to sell it. This week I went out on black Friday and happened to hit best buy. After I had all my shopping done for what I wanted I decided to look at home theater systems because I was craving another one and waiting for the lines to die down. br / br /I checked out quite a few impressive systems along with the sony. I had been interested in soundbar type systems for a while thoughas I'd seen some amazing ones out there. I listened to the sony in the store and thought it sounded very nice and it was on sale for 200 [...]. I eneded up deciding on it because of the sound quality and ease of hook up, my old system had wires everywhere and it got kind of annoying. The sony system has 2 wires for the main components, one for power and one from the SW to the sound bar. br / br /I took it home, plugged in all my components and had it spittin out tunes in a matter of 15 minutes. I've been impressed ever since. The sound quality is crisp and superb. The bass from the sub is deep. Just over all I can't say enough about how good this system is...it's too hard to describe everything. Everyone of my friends and family that listened to it are extremely impressed. br / br /Here's the bottom line. I didn't mention that I live in a semi-small RV which is a little relevant here. As an electronics expert, here's my advice. If you want simplicity and ease of hook up, no complications or junk to screw around with and waste your time, this is your system. If you want great sound quality with deep bass in a small compact setup, this is your system. If you're in a smallish room(this is where my rv comes in) like 300-400 sq ft.(20x20ft) or less this will work great. I'm not sure about larger rooms, I would suspect that it will still sound really good but the "surround effect" might be lost as there won't be walls to bounce the sound off. br / br /On the other hand. If you're looking for a big powerful system with 5.1 surround sound or better, a system that can blow your neighbors 2 houses down away, shake your whole house, etc... This is not your system. If you want that, walk away from the sound bar section now, you need a 1000 watt receiver and some really big(8" or better) woofers, a huge subwoofer...etc... br / br /Like I said, overall I'm impressed with this system I absolutely love it. It fits my needs perfectly, does exactly what I want. I just don't need anymore. br / br /By the way...I'm watching fantastic four on it right now...it's...fantastic...LOL
