Great Solid System from A Reliable company. September 28, 2008 P. Myers (Alberta) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I Trust two companies to buy laptops from: 1. Apple 2. ACER. I have a home office and need two laptops, one with Vista and one with OS X 10.5 Leopard. When I went to but a copy of XP to add to my Macbook Pro (*****) using parallels or dual boot I noticed that This Acer laptop (well an Acer laptop nearly the same as this one) was 200 dollars more than a copy of XP so I did the logical thing and bought the laptop instead. I gave my Wife and son an ASUS Eee PC which they are very pleased with, my wife likes to take it traveling with her and uses her HP laptop for main purposes becasue she is not a huge fan on Linux like myself. Back to the ACER one it's a solid machine and affordable. Vista runs perfectly on it, lots of great useful programs, some crapware like all Windows based preloaded computers nowadays, but after a little add/remove cleaning, perfect. The ACER I bought is the same as this one except it has: 2.13 GHZ Intel-Celeron 560, 3GB DDR2 Ram, 160 GB HD, 15.5" Crystalbrite screen which gives beautiful color and resolution. DVD-Super Multi Dl and very solid 802.11 bg/g Wylan which made it a sinch to add to my home network with zero headaches unlike my previous Ubuntu computer which needed days worth of configuring just to hear sounds, change background image, do anything worthwhile....not to mention connecting to the internet...wireless is a nightmare with Linux esspessially Ubuntu, total garbage and the worst OS ever, thats when I knew I needed to welcome Windows back in my life as a secondary OS/Laptop next to my Macbook Pro/OS X which cannot be beat with performance. Acer makes great products and this laptop is a steal at the asking price. ***** Awesome job Acer/Microsoft.
Good Student Laptop - A Little Heavy August 25, 2008 CFH (Blue Ridge Summit, PA USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
We bought 3 of the "Acer Aspire 5315" laptops, 2 for my teenage kids and one for my mother. br / br /Here are my observations: br / br /* My kids love the laptop and have no problem using the mouse touch pad, but my mother can not seem to figure it out (we ended up buying everyone Microsoft Wireless Notebook Laser Mouse 7000 Mac/Win USB). br / br /* The mouse touch pad allows the pointer to drift and jump around on the screen. This seems to be random, but can be annoying (another reason to use an external mouse). br / br /* The screen is VERY clear br / br /* The DVD player is very good and easy for even my mother to use br / br /* The battery life is about 2 hours (long enough for most movies) br / br /* Wi-Fi is very stable br / br /* It is HEAVY! br / br /Not for power users, but recommended for students and casual users.
