| Customer Reviews:
READ THE SMALL PRINT!!! November 18, 2008 J. Sunderland I am just getting into telephoto photography and saw this lens. 500-1000, amazing! I ordered it and when it arrived, I took it out of the box and found out that it was a fixed 500mm lens with a 2X multiplier. I had assumed that 500-1000 meant that it was a zoom lens. This is the normal way telephoto focal lengths are written (I checked). This particular lens should have been marked "500mm lens with 2X multiplier" or (as I've seen elsewhere, including 47th Street on eBay) "500mm/1000mm lens". Basically I would say that the lens is of good quality, but it is basically impossible to use in wildlife photography unless the animal is dead or really slow (the focus is difficult to work unless you have 30 secs or a minute to turn the gray viewfinder into a clear picture-especially with an Olympus E-520). I tried the 2X doubler and couldn't get a clear shot even when I spent a while aiming at distant areas. Of course, there is no auto zoom because the lens uses an adapter for the old T-mount. Also, the lens covers are flimsy and are hard to place. If you are fine with taking slow pictures or happen to be lucky to get an animal to sit long enough for you to focus, this is an adequate lens. Just read the fine print and you'll be fine. I will be sending mine back, because while I can use a fixed lens later, I need a zoom telephoto first and that is what I thought I was buying. As a further note, the customer service people were condescending and claimed that many people had bought that lens ("for several years") and only I had a problem with it. Maybe that is true, if I am misplacing my negative criticism, post positive opinions.
