4 out of 5 stars Great Product Great Price But needs to be Tweeked   January 19, 2010
Paul S. Fratianni
Basically the worst things about this product is the speakers which is underneath the computer itself. Without headphones it at best can give you an impression of what going on but nothing more than barely getting by. I don't mind using headphones but have found a few applications I'd rather not like when multiple people are needing to listen.

Also this product all of a sudden will open a new browser or window or increase/decrease the size of the screen. Often this happens when typing fairly fast but I'm sure I'm not hitting a key in error, it's just a strange glitch.

Other than these faults the computer is great. The web cam and mic are surprising good. The memory is more than enough for most peoples uses. The laptop is super lite and easy to travel with. 6 to 8 hour battery life comes in handy all the time. I like the hot keys helping me from everything from increasing the volume to darkening the screen at a punch of a button.

If I'd have one advice buy the newer version of this computer. It has the speakers on the screen facing the user and has a bigger keyboard. I think it is the NC120. A friend of mine bought it and is super pleased.

Hopefully they have also fixed the other kinks. For the money its about the best option out there as others brands in this price range tend to run a little chintzy.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed after 1 year....   January 16, 2010
J. Manish (Chicago, IL)
I purchased a Samsung NC10 one year ago and two weeks so that we would have at least one PC in our house and also for mobile use at work. I know this date since it was ten days after my warranty was up that my netbook stopped charging. I thought it might be a loose contact, and after speaking with CS, I was told it was either this or the motherboard. After purchasing a replacement charger (not cheap by the way), I have no power. It is disappointing and suprising to see this in a Samsung product. I have 5 Samsung TV's in my house, as well as cell phones and prior computers. It certainly isn't the company in my opinion since I love my other products and have never had a problem with their service. I was informed the cost to ship and repair the motherboard will cost nearly as much as the netbook. Not worth it. I now need to purchase another netbook, and just can't bring myself to purchase a Samsung after this. Disappointing really since the Netbook was terrific in all aspects prior to this last week (hence the second star).

5 out of 5 stars Worth the price   January 8, 2010
T. Kastorff (619, CA)
Did the research, narrowed down to Samsung, Asus, Acer. Consumer Reports, among others, listed the NC-10 as a best buy.

[...]

Love the computer.

Light weight, very portable, great screen, great keyboard (i have basketball hands), ramps up very quickly (especially with Win 7), lots of hard drive and RAM space. Battery life is solid, probably a realistic 6 hours unless you are just reading something basic and not loading pages often or running programs.

Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Great netbook   January 5, 2010
P. Higgins
After doing my online research, I determined this is what I wanted based on reports and reviews. It was on a bit of a sale when I bought it, so that didn't hurt either.

I use this netbook as my primary work computer as a software engineer. It gets a lot of daily use, including typing and internet browsing (man pages aren't for me).

Pros:

* Great battery life. I've had it report up to 10 hours remaining at times, although it was with networking off and screen dimmed. With screen at max, on network, I can reliably get 5 hours.

* Nice screen. Even at minimum brightness, if you're not in sunlight, you can easily see and read the screen.

* Resolution. 1024x600 gives you a pretty good view of most web sites. It's even enough to play your favorite video games like starcraft, diablo, etc...

* 93% keyboard. Apparently that's how big the keyboard is compared to a standard one. It's not too bad to type on. I use it for 8 hours a day, every day, and haven't encountered any more typos than usual.

* SD card reader. This is a nice addition, I always have an SD card for quick little backups.

* Blue. It's a really nice color.

Cons:

* Cramped keyboard = bad shortcuts. Unfortunately for me, I use the home/end keys literally hundreds of times a day. These keys are situated on the arrow keys, requiring me to press Fn+Up to go home. When I want to highlight an entire line of text (Fn+Shift+Up), it's pretty inconvenient. Most people don't even know where their home key is though, so it depends on how you'd be using it how this would affect you.

* Ubuntu Karmic Koala. I have this installed, and in order to use some functions (such as adjusting screen brightness), it was necessary for me to flash my BIOS. This may or may not bother you.

5 out of 5 stars My Wife Loves It!   December 29, 2009
Wayhomer (Midwest)
My wife wanted a pink computer for her birthday... pink pink pink! It had to be pink! The only interest in computers for her is surfing the web, her emails and managing her pictures. So, it was up to me to find her a decent computer that was pink. I found this and it had good reviews and was in my price range, so this was the one... in pink of course. She has a pink wireless mouse, pink headphones, and a pink flash drive. She is set!
It has been very user friendly for her and she has been very happy with it. I was a little shy about not having a disc drive, but she didn't care and I was able to get the essential software on it using my laptops drive. I was suprised at how big the keyboard actually is. It fits her girl-hands just fine. She uses it everyday and loves it.
