This player is reasonably portable and works as it should. No glitches. Kept my kids occupied on two 4 hour drives and did not require my involvement to turn on and change disks. I found the sound volume from the speakers to be a little low and the batteries never last as long as you thing they should but it has a 12 volt DC car charger. However, if you are buying this for car travel you will not be dissapointed.

We bought this about a year ago and it worked for a month or so but then the power cord started acting up (had a short in it or something). We thought it was just one of those things so we bought a replacement cord but after about 3 uses, it too started doing the same thing. The battery never did last more than about 30 mins so without the power cord it is useless. We started taping the cord a certain way that would allow it to work and that worked for a while but then that finally stopped and now we are left with a $100 piece of plastic. This thing is junk. Spend a little more and get one that will be of value.

In comparison with a portable Sony DVD purchase I recently made for my other child, there is no comparison. One of the options that is missing in this rating is video quality and the Sony is far better in video, sound, battery life and the quality of material used. However, the Phillips is a cheaper product and does the job, although I am a bit concerned because it rattles a bit and sounds like it is about to go out. Love the Sony...
