3 out of 5 stars Ok as an alert, not good for security   December 13, 2007

First of all, the base unit is very small, not much bigger than a deck of cards. That's not a bad thing, it just looked bigger in the pictures. br / br /It is fairly easy to set up and works fairly well, although it was a little hard to get the sensors working at first. br / br /The trouble with this item is that it gives false alarms. I have 2 sensors, they light the #1 and #2 light on the unit. However, soon after I started testing the #3 light started rapidly blinking. I don't have a sensor 3. br / br /And twice the alarm has gone off when it shouldn't have. I have #1 in my living room, I was home alone and it started beeping. I thought "what the heck?" and went out to the living room, nothing and no one was there. That was creepy though. br / br /My #2 sensor is pointing down my basement stairs. Tonight as I sat here at my computer out of the corner of my eye I saw #2 blinking. Unless it can detect a mouse or something, there is nobody down there (or IS there?) br / br /I think they need to redesign this unit with some sort of unique coded signal from the detectors so that there will be no false alarms. Otherwise, it's maybe good as an alert to let you know that someone is *probably* there, but not for actual security, it would make you paranoid with the false alarms. br /

3 out of 5 stars This is not a motion light   November 19, 2007
Just call me Cookie (Buffalo, NY)
This works well as a motion sensor, but be forewarned--regardless of what it says on the product page, this is not a light! When I received it, the package said nothing about having a light; it is a motion detector that senses movement "up to 40 feet away". I gave this 3 stars because once the sensor is triggered, with a brief accompanying red glow from the "light",it takes a while (how long, I'm not sure) to reset. I suppose this is to extend battery life because the sensor takes a 9V battery. If it was activated continuously after the initial motion detection, I'm sure it would eat batteries. br /The receiver plugs in to a standard outlet and flashes a red light and beeps for 15 seconds when the sensor is activated. There is supposedly a high/low volume for the beep, but I don't think it really works. The beep can be turned off with the same switch that sets the volume. The antenna, which is not pictured, is a very thin, rather cheap-looking bendable wire coated in white plastic. br /I'll see how long the entire set functions properly. br / br / br /

2 out of 5 stars Too many random false alarms   July 17, 2007

I had high hopes for this device, as one of the cheapest motion alert systems out there which supports multiple zones. I bought several of these devices to help monitor various properties (4 receivers and 7 detectors). br / br /For the most part, the product is pretty easy to configure and detects motion well. The critical problem for me was that out of the 7 detectors, 3 of them were defective in terms of giving off random false alarms, several times per day. (The other 4 worked perfectly.) At first I thought it must be due to the detectors being overly sensitive to shadows or insects or something, but then I put all of the detectors in a closed shoebox for several days as a test, and these 3 still gave off occasional false alarms, so they were defective. br / br /I'd recommend going with one of the slightly more expensive alternatives such as the RWA-300R Reporter, or if cost is no object, the Optex Annunciator. br /

We bought this unit to alert us when our de-clawed cat is at the front door. Works great with no false alarms, so far.

4 out of 5 stars HA-318 House Link Motion Alert   March 7, 2005

This alarm works just as described. It will alert you to motion detected of the premise being surveiled! I wish the siren was louder, and beeped continuously, until manually muted or turned off.
