Sony DRX840U review December 2, 2008 Menachem Levanoni (Poway, CA) The Sony DRX840U burner fulfilled all expectations. Unlike some reviews comlaining about noisy operation, the unit performed fast and quietly and was easy to operate. I would recommend it to anyone.
Operation is a snap, but it is very noisy November 22, 2008 G. Burns (Chino Hills, CA United States) Setting up this external drive is almost too easy. It took me longer to unpack the drive than to set it up. Just plug in the USB cable and you are done. Operation has been flawless so far and I have already used the drive a lot just to test it out. br / br / I have the Sony DRX840U External Drive sitting right next to my 500 GB LaCie External Hard Drive. My LaCie Hard Drive is a work of art, and makes virtually no noise at all, but when the Sony DVD drive fires up it makes quite a bit of noise. So much noise that if I have both of my computers running all I can hear is this external DVD Drive. Also if I have my TV on I have to turn up the volume to compensate for the noisy drive. br / br / Now, don't get me wrong, the drive works just as well as you would expect for a Sony drive, and the noise from the drive can be reduced if you have a set of USB headphones handy. The only real problem I have had with the drive is when it is set up standing on end rather than layiing flat on a hard surface. I have had the DVD disc that I inserted into the drive fall out when the drive door closes and the disc rolls across the floor. You just have to be careful when inserting a disc in the drive. I would recommend this drive as a smart buy.
Not a coaster yet November 20, 2008 Chuck V. (Atlanta) This is a fantastic unit. I bought this Sony to replace another brand that was super picky about what brand of blank was used and it rejected more than it burned. br /This drive is flawless though. It's easy to set up and use, and quiet. I use Sony DVD +R and Sony Dual Layer blanks. I've burned probably about 20 DVDs and each has been perfect. I'm a real happy camper.
instructions missing November 2, 2008 B. Wehr (florida) excellent product except that the user instructions were embedded in the nero disk ...i never have been able to find instructions for using nero software so i removed it and am using my windows media player instead br /you would think that sony/nero/amazon could include a few written instructions on where things are hidden ...gw
A pleasure to use.... October 21, 2008 H. Kitchen (Iowa) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This external DVD drive is attractive, easy to use and performs very well. Has performed flawlessly in fairly heavy use over the past month or so. A good choice!
