Product Description With Toshiba's well-appointed Satellite U400 Series, slight in stature doesn't mean short on features. Starting with a 13.3-inch screen, this compact hero balances working room with carrying comfort, so you can get to all those spreadsheet columns without getting in anyone's way. Powerful Intel Core 2 Duo processor, big hard drives and lots of storage give you more muscle when working on planes or in coffee shops. A built-in webcam and microphone add a dimension to videoconferencing. And an optical drive lets you share work and do back-ups quickly and easily. Topped by a brilliant Fusion finish, and weighing less than five pounds, these laptops are ready to help you move ahead.

Poor product, terrible customer service September 20, 2008 A. Matsyshe 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you're reading this review right now, then chances are you want to make sure you are making the right choice. br /Let me assure you, if you're planning on purchasing a Toshiba laptop, you are not. br / br /Please, google "toshiba laptop complaints" and get the REAL reviews. br /As for my input... br /this is a conversation that took place in an authorized toshiba shipping store: br /me: "Man, let me tell you something... NEVER buy a Toshiba laptop." br /clerk: "With the ammount of them that we ship back every month, I never would." br / br /..just in case you were wondering how many laptops this authorized postal service receives from customer and ships out for repair every month - "..about 30" is the answer that I got br / br /Good luck.
DOA September 11, 2008 J. Cowan (Houston, TX) Toshiba Satellite U405-S2854 13.3-inch Laptop (2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) Black br /I received this product last evening. After setup and pressing power button, only the icons on kb lighted but screen was blank. Called Toshiba support who were unable to help me get system booted. After following their suggestion to charge battery overnight, tried again this morning. Again, nothing. Lights are on but nobody home. Toshiba support recommended unit be returned to vendor, Amazon. Also found that advertised express card slot was not available. Only a knockout plastic plug was present. Have decided to defer purchase until new ssd units are available at reasonable prices. Toshiba's new Portage M800 with 128 GB ssd is one new entry but at $2300 is a bit pricey. I'll continue to use my Sony Vaio till then.
I love my new notebook! September 7, 2008 David Ampola (Albany, CA USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I was looking for a compact notebook to replace my old Sony Vaio and, after much research, decided on this laptop. I have not been disappointed, and am in fact very pleased with it. br / br /The pros: it is fast, well designed, easy to use, and fairly compact. It's light too - not quite as light as the Sony 13 inchers - but for me that did not justify the insane increase in price for the Sonys. Also i like how it runs all my old XP programs without a hitch. It feels solid and well built, and the screen is nice and bright. br / br /The cons: BEWARE! Amazon got the photo for this product wrong - it DOES NOT come with a fingerprint reader! If you are interested in that, there are other models in the u405 series that have it. Another thing that is not that great is the battery life. This model has the lower level battery, and probably won't last more than a couple of hours. Again, other models of the same series do have the bigger battery. So, if that's important to you, I would recommend going with one of those. Also, fingerprints show up like crazy on the glossy black 'fusion' finish. It doesn't really bother me at all because they wipe off very easily. br / br /Overall I am very pleased with my purchase and would buy it again if I had it to do over.
I am very satisfied September 5, 2008 Lirobles 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I purchased this laptop a month ago and I am very satisfied. It is thin and very light, and also it is stylish! Its size is perfect because it is small enough to take it with you everywhere and also you can work accurately on it (you can read the letters because their size is not too small). I highly recommend toshiba, this brand is forever, I changed my old toshiba because I got bored with it, but it still works perfect.
