Incredible Picture Quality, Excellent Features = A Great TV!
It's been about seven years since I purchased my last HDTV - one of the last generation Panasonic plasma televisions that I purchased for my home theater. So when my 10-year-old Sharp Aquos LCD HDTV started giving up the ghost I knew I had some reading up to do on current television technology - from backlighting to SmartTV features a lot has changed in the HDTV landscape.I, of course, ended up selecting this Samsung 50" UN50MU6300 (just '6300' from here on) after comparing several brands including models from LG and Sony. For a time I was considering a much more expensive Sony XBR model but ultimately justifying the expense was difficult for a family room television that spends more time tuned to Disney Junior than anything else. Considering just how much prices of HDTVs have fallen in recent years I felt like the sub-thousand dollar range still provided plenty of features and excellent picture quality without a lot of the extras that my family and I wouldn't really notice a whole lot.--------------------► Unboxing & Setup:I knew the specs of the 6300 before it arrived but it's still impressive how much smaller and lighter HDTVs have gotten. My old Sharp Aquos HDTV was a marvel for its time but the 6300 is inches thinner and a good 20lbs lighter. The box is thin and small enough for a single person to move around without any issues. Samsung gives plenty of interior protection for the TV in the form of molded styrofoam and it's very easy to open the TV and remove it from the box. Initially, I opted to have my wife help me setup the TV but after seeing how light this set is I decided I could just get it setup myself. My biggest advice if you're setting the 6300 up on a wall-mount is to ensure you have the proper size mount and most importantly screws for the job ahead of time. I figured the same screws that worked on my Aquos would suffice with the 6300 and that is not the case. Samsung uses a VESA-standard 400mm x 400mm form factor. My mount was thankfully compatible but not the old screws. Be sure to have size M8 1.25 x 20mm screws on hand! You can pick up a set of these at any local big box home improvement store for about a dollar.I did temporarily test the included stand on the 6300 while I was running to the hardware store and I'm not impressed. For the price of the set I really shouldn't expect too much I suppose but the stand is really poor. It uses thick plastic but it's sort of dull and doesn't seem to fit the TV very well. The stand requires eight (8) small screws (included) to assemble and secure to the TV. My biggest concern with the stand is that it seems to leave the TV pretty wobbly. This was just a temporary solution for me but something to be aware of if you plan on using the stand full-time.--------------------► First Impression:The overall build quality of the materials is definitely a step down from my old Aquos HDTV. The price range for this television seems to leave little left over for upgrades to the exterior and honestly, I'm good with it. The outside plastics are all black matte plastics. Thankfully the bezel is small so the cheap plastics aren't all that apparent anyway.I'm a much bigger fan of the television's picture and performance in menus. To keep it succinct I think the picture is incredible - the television is both bright but manages to produce very nice black levels. Scrolling through the TVs menus is fast, efficient and extremely responsive.--------------------► Picture & Audio Quality:Overall I'm very satisfied with the picture on the 6300. This set is in a bright family room in my home and the picture looks amazing. One, item to consider is the Eco setting which adjusts the brightness of the TV based on ambient lighting. I noticed the TV tended to look too dim and turned this setting off. 1080P and 4K content especially looks stunning. The edge-lit LED technology that this set uses really pushes black levels way down and helps to create a very clean, realistic picture. One area I did notice this TV seems to have difficulty with is very wide viewing angles. Just because of the setup of my room walking in I'm able to see the set from the side and the off-center viewing angle was worse than I expected. I'm not sure what causes that but thankfully our sitting arrangement is dead-center on the 6300 so this isn't an issue when we're actually sitting and watching TV.--------------------► Samsung Smart Remote / One Remote:Since Samsung's remote is a pretty big departure from my other HDTVs remotes I'm throwing in a section for it for review. In short, Samsung has redesigned the TV remote to get rid of the plethora of buttons and large form factor. Instead, you get a very svelte remote with much fewer buttons. The idea is to utilize onscreen menus to do things like change inputs and sources but still retain core features like audio adjustment, mute functions, channel selection and so forth on the physical remote. Another huge feature is the inclusion of a microphone built into the remote that utilizes voice commands for operating the television. The remote seems like one of those areas where people are either going to love it or hate it. Personally, I was uncommitted to either camp until I spent more time with the 6300 and now I love the remote. In fact, going back to my Panasonic plasma's remote just seems so antiquated. In a lot of ways, Samsung's implementation of the Smart Remote/One Remote is very similar to my Roku 3's remote.--------------------► Samsung Apps:By now most people understand the concept of "apps" or applications. In this case, Samsung has their own app environment for their television lineup. A lot of the biggest apps will be readily available in the Samsung Marketplace, however, not every channel you may want is available. For instance, on my old Aquos TV we mostly watched content through our Roku 3 which to my knowledge has one of the largest libraries of applications available. Samsung's marketplace is much smaller so some apps are bound to be missing. Case in point: Disney and Disney Jr. and Nickelodeon apps are nowhere to be found. This can be a major issue depending on your viewing habits. Thankfully, the largest players - Netflix and Amazon are present. So just be aware that your mileage may vary with the SmartTV features here.--------------------► Inputs & Outputs:→ 3 x HDMI inputs including 1 x HDMI ARC (audio return channel)→ 1x Component mini (Pb Pr Y) + analog audio input→ 1x RG6 Antenna input→ 1x RJ45 Ethernet LAN input→ 1x USB 5V at 0.5A→ 1x USB 5V at 1A (compatible with external HDDs)→ 1x Digital Optical audio output--------------------► Closing:All things considered, I feel like the UM6300 was an excellent choice. This TV offers a ton of features, incredible picture quality and 4K resolution for a budget conscious buyer. There are some not so great materials used, especially in components like the stand and off-angle viewing could definitely be better. But for the price, I think this is definitely the TV to go with. Recommended!

For its price, I give it 5 stars. Out of the box the picture quality was decent but as soon as I turned on HDR plus and tweaked a few settings, the picture really stood out. It is definitely an upgrade my last Samsung LED TV and if you're looking for a good cheap 4k tv for your moneys worth I would definitely recommend this.
To clarify some stuff based on what I saw in some reviews that left me spectacle about my purchase:
The remote is definitely different but it's not hard to figure out how to use... There is no source button on it but when you press the home button on it a little bottom bar comes up with apps and a settings button and a source button, very easily accessible. Or you can use the mic and say which source you want to go to and it will switch for you. The viewing angles on this Tv are not the best; the color fades when you are on too much of an angle.
I saw some people post about how the software is crap. I personally have not had any problems yet with this TV's software but then again it has only been a day. I have noticed that my internet speed seems to be a lot slower while connected to wifi on this TV while my other wifi connected devices seem to get regular speeds.
I also saw some people say the stand sucks. Umm i don't know what type of parkour you're doing around you're house but as long as you don't knock yourself into whatever is holding your TV, the stand is just fine and gets the job done.

Overall the 4k up scaling works great. Unfortunately I don't have any true 4k content right now as UVERSE only transmits 1080i and my PS4 isn't a pro, but I can only imagine that it would look even better.
If you're speculating about getting this TV, GET IT! If you want a TV with outstanding picture then you're looking at the wrong price range of TV's bud.

This arrived on time as promised. Unboxing and set up was easy. Picture out of the box is a little overwhelming. I turned it to a golf tournament and the fairways were electric green! I had read about this earlier so did some searches for expert settings for this TV and found several sites that provided suggested settings for a variety of lighting situations. I STRONGLY recommend that you do this. They all offer a variation of setting the picture to Movie and the color tone to either Warm 1 or Warm 2. There are other more granular settings that you can play with. Anyway, after making only a few changes, I went back to the golf, and the course looked like it should and all the other channels looked like they should - not over-amped out in color, or saturation. Contrast was dialed back a bit. The picture is stunning. The 4K image lends almost a liquid-like sensation. In normal HD, the picture is still very sharp, but the 4K resolution removes any hint of it being an image made up of pixels. Incredible.

Supplied apps seem appropriate for a Smart TV - Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc. etc. I had no trouble hooking up to my wireless network.

The remote seems to cause many people grief. I suspect it is just because they are used to their old remote, covered in buttons. Nearly every function is quickly reached from the Home menu - access to attached devices, apps, settings, After connecting my Xfinity box, the TV detected it and it was able to access the Xfinity guide, scheduling of recordings, access to stored recordings, etc. It just did it. Amazing.

I replaced a 10 year old Vizio that did me a good job for a long time. When I went to remove it from the stand it was on, I had forgotten how heavy it was! The Samsung weighs easily less than half as much. I guess the only thing that I find a "con" is that while the picture is outstanding, they did not spend much on the "cabinet" if you want to call it that. Unlike the Vizio, I cannot spin the Samsung by pushing or pulling on the upper corners of the screen - it flexes a fair amount. Think the flex of a cheap laptop screen, and you get the idea. Not a huge knock, just something to note.

I would recommend this set to anyone. If you were to find fault with the picture, you would have to be very picky.

    UPDATE:
Right after I received it, I was surveyed by Amazon on the delivery experience. Apparently, for these larger TV's, the delivery guys are supposed to unbox it, attach the stand and power it up to make sure it works. I had no idea this was included, so I told my wife to just have them slide the box into the garage. Wish I had known! Breaking down the TV box and the box that box came in was a chore and completely filled my recycle can. So, if you get one or similar be aware of the service you paid for!

A great purchase for the price point in my opinion. A Samsung 43" 4K, HDR, Smart TV for around $600. Despite being a Samsung, I was cautious about what to expect. Surely something was going to bother me, but so far this TV is amazing.

It goes without saying that the picture quality is excellent. This is my first experience with HDR and it's stunning the difference it makes with a better contrast ratio and color accuracy. Pair that with increasing the resolution to 4k (and having media that is native 4k of course) and it's gorgeous.

Built-in speakers usually don't impress me at all, especially being a Sennheiser headset user. That said, the speakers with this TV are surprisingly good across the whole range without distortion or vibrating the panel.

One quirk that bothers me is there isn't a quick way to change the source on the TV. When I pull up the menu the cursor is always on the opposite end of the menu from where the source is and it doesn't wrap around so you have to scroll the long way to get to it. I haven't read the manual completely yet so there probably is a shortcut to change the source and I just don't know it yet, so I'm considering this an "other" and not a "con" or a loss of a star for now.

    Note:
The TV does not come with an HDMI cable. So if you find yourself needing to buy one, make sure it's marketed as Premium. The premium certification from HDMI Licensing guarantees that the cable has the bandwidth to support features such as 4k/UHD @ 60fps, HDR, etc. Don't bother with expensive HDMI cables either. It's digital so it either works or it doesn't. There is no signal quality difference between a $5 HDMI cable and a $100 HDMI cable.

    Example:
    Mediabridge FLEX Series HDMI Cable (6 Feet) - High-Speed Supports 4K, Ethernet, 3D and Audio Return [Newest Standard] - (Part# MPC-HDMI34-6 )

5.0 out of 5 stars Great TV for the price, just needs more HDMI ports

After a few months of using the TV, our family loves it. Great picture, excellent sound, all around great entertainment system. The only problem is there are only 3 HDMI ports, not nearly enough for all the devices we need to connect to it. We'd need almost twice that.

Received the TV on date promised and I'm pleased with the picture - it has great color. A note to new purchasers....when I hooked up the tv for the first time the tv shows looked like cheap soap opera type productions and I was disappointed, however I looked on-line and discovered it was just a matter of changing the Action Motion Plus setting (found in expert settings for Picture) to off. That made all the difference and I have been pleased with the tv and the quality of the picture ever since. Another note to purchasers....you will need USB headphones or a Digital to Audio Converter and a Toslink cable to use regular headphones (with a jack connection) or blue tooth can be used too of course.
